Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Federal immigration agents seeking to detain a Honduran landscaper chased him into a Southern California surgical center and quickly found themselves in a tense standoff as clinic staff demanded to see identification and a warrant.

In a video clip of the Tuesday altercation that has spread on social media, Ontario Advanced Surgery Center staff in blue scrubs are heard telling an armed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent wearing a mask and bulletproof vest to let go of the man, who is crying and gasping for breath.

“Get your hands off of him. You don’t even have a warrant,” says one staff member, shielding the man from an immigration agent. “Let him go. You need to get out.”

This is not fighting. This is arguing. Violence has become necessary.

without any identification how could they be sure he wasn't Bob, the 11:00 appointement for testicules ablation?

Without identification how do we know those “ice agents” aren’t just idf goons in ski masks

[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 50 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Without identification how can bystanders not use deadly force to defend Innocents from kidnappers.

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 40 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Even with identification, ice is illegally kidnapping legal residents and legal asylum seekers and deporting them to countries they've never even been to

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 39 points 10 months ago

Your saying it wrong

"Your honor, masked thugs were attempting to kidnap the very scared man. They also refused to identify themselves or explain the situation"

If they start shooting children in the head, that ought to confirm it

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

Honestly, having identification would be more damning in that case

Medical staff are used to high stress situations, they don’t put up with shit

Just pointing out that it is perfectly legal to open carry on private property. Requiring warrants and identification before allowing LE on premises is completely reasonable.

I mean, just to be sure their names end up on the do-not-treat list, at least, as they would for anyone bringing violence into a hospital.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I know this is the case in Oregon (where I live), but is it true in every state?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

More or less, just can't swing around and threaten. Otherwise it'd be a clusterfuck of legal bullshit that'd make the Eastern Roman Empire puke.

You can also drive on private property without a license.

Honest to god I would save until my death to buy a Hugo Boss so I could support this.

The news needs to stop giving these people in masks the benefit of the doubt.

They are wearing masks and bulletproof vests. Anyone with 500 dollars can get those things. Stop calling them “Agents” when they don’t show identification. Start calling them “Armed unidentified men” because thats all those surgical staff members saw. When you have your agency on your uniform and you show a badge and ID, then you’re an agent, otherwise you’re just a random man with a gun and people will treat you accordingly.
