Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
I heard they're going on tour soon!
Sounds awesome
I think if I get it, it might make me cooler. Maybe this is a JFK strain and that’s the idea.
Maybe. Maybe it would just benefit you on Motorhead Karaoke night.
The Ace of spades!
CDC site showing current variants, their lineages, and percentages. Also possibly a NowCast for your state or region.
Wastewater scan for covid and other infectious diseases. Filter by state or selected individual sewage processing plants that are part of the wastewater scan project (note that not all plants test for all diseases). Tells you how prevalent those diseases are in that area, potentially before diseases start to surge. May also have variant information.
PMC data dashboard. Lots of potentially useful stuff.
Weird website that didn’t name states. Maybe there’s a map that reader mode filtered out
Nope.
A map released by the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data shows that 21 states in the United States are reporting COVID-19 variant NB.1.8.1 as of Thursday afternoon.
Quick search.
Nope. No pictures other than ads.
And people look at you weird if you wear an N95 at the airport.
Oh no! ICE is here
What a great story to read while I wait for a call back from my doctor, due to a sore throat...
It would be nice if there were information on what part of the throat is supposed to hurt. I've got pain in the esophagus, but not the trachea. I can talk pain-free, but it hurts like hell to swallow.
I’ll leave this here lol. My kids loved my “birds and the bees” talk

😂
Ohh, if only my love life were that adventurous.
I still have some covid home tests, will these still throw a positive on the new variants? (Assuming the test is still good)
before the "razor throat" was published, my wife and I both got it and the tests came back negative so we thought it was something else. Nope, it was totally 'razor throat covid'. Wasted 2 tests (or maybe the tests are just too old now?)
My mom had something in VA in mid-June and said it felt like razor blades in her throat. She tested negative for COVID. 🤔
what was recovery like?
Sore throat for a few days and then a couple weeks to full recovery. She's nearly 70 though.
Same. The doctor gave me the at-home test and they came back negative twice. Then I took an actual COVID test at the doctor and that came back positive.
pcr is the most accurate for covid, but most people dont have access to that kind of testing.
Will the new tests?
i thought i had covid last month, but it turns out it was a cold which i hadnt gotten since the pandemic. the past infection of covid, only were detected through the test and mild symptoms almost non-noticible if your already vaccinated against it. cold symptoms came on full force.
I am happy for you. Every time i got COVID despite being vaccinated it completely fucked me up for at least a week and i needed another week to be somewhat okay and another month until i felt okay enough to slowly start with doing sports again.
Well ain't this just a f****** kick in the head i don't even know if I'm supposed to get vaccinated anymore. ( according to an article I read the latest science says that vaccinations might not be the best thing for literally everyone at this point)
