US media company Paramount Global has agreed to pay $16 million (£13.5m) to settle a legal dispute with US President Donald Trump regarding an interview it broadcast on CBS with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

As usual corporations looking for special treatment, hoping to have their merger accepted, refuse to fight the fascist...

I wish someone would sue Fox for fucks sake..

We don't allow editorialized headlines. If you fix it, we can restore it.

"Paramount to pay Trump $16m to settle 60 Minutes lawsuit"

Boot licking is paramount

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

So was this extortion, a bribe, or both?

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 hours ago

There's a lot of massive mergers in the works right now. These are bribes.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

legalized bribery. he files bullshit lawsuits demanding payola and they cave no matter how great their chance if winning is... cause its not about lawsuits its about bribes

All 3 and a 4th: a punishment for not kissing his feet with their coverage

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

And shit like this is why Trump will keep doing this over and over again.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

The American people should sue NBC for making Trump look good in The Apprentice

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago

And what is Trump going to do with that money?

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

New paramount logo just dropped 💩

My words exactly when I read this...

Paramount doesn't give one solitary fuck about how this affects perception of media, how the Reich gets to do a victory lap and entrench the idea that no media but their media should be trusted, all Paramount cares about is money.

They even still hold that they did nothing wrong, but they refuse to fight because Mango Mussolini has the power to stop their merger...

And as usual every fucking coward Democrat who has ever been mistreated or misrepresented by Fox news refuses to sue them because we need to "go high when they go low." Nice plan Icarus.

These companies deserve everything they get for being complete cowards.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

Same goes for all Americans

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 28 points 1 day ago

I seriously hope they still get their merger denied and the settlement is referred to as a reason why lol

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He won. He's mad because he didn't win hard enough.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I'm tired of all this winning.

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Glad I canceled Paramount+ subscription, their shit sucks anyway

Every single American institution is full of cowards and sycophants if they're not fully mask-off bloodthirsty authoritarians.

America speed running to be ruled by Enclave.

Anyone here want to hear a joke? Turn on CBS.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago

The channel where you see bs

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I didn't hear any jokes. Just a couple "nerds" talking in between canned laughter.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

CBS and it's reliability on anything to do with news is now a joke. They're blown up any credibility that they may have had left. Turn themselves into a punchline for profits as capitalists are wont.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

"The hour's top story, in another glorious act of genius, Dear Leader pours billions into ICE, to help make the average Joe rich!

"Up next, the latest Kardashian news."

[–] 5oap10116@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

So when are they going to do a completely unedited interview with Drumph? I hear he has the best words.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I mean, is that merger of theirs even worth it? Skydance's only noteworthy movies are those they already have a deal with Paramount for as it is. This is just so stupid.

Then again, $16m is chump change so I guess gems like... *Checks notes... The Old Guard 2 (?) will be a worthy exchange for any trust in legacy media.

[–] MyDogLovesMe@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Stop watching CBS

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

Thank goodness for all the "both sides!" handwringing we did to get here.

Leslie Moonves can appreciate a Donald Trump candidacy.

Not that the CBS executive chairman and CEO might vote for the Republican presidential frontrunner, but he likes the ad money Trump and his competitors are bringing to the network.

“It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS,” he said of the presidential race.

Moonves called the campaign for president a “circus” full of “bomb throwing,” and he hopes it continues.

“Most of the ads are not about issues. They’re sort of like the debates,” he said.

“Man, who would have expected the ride we’re all having right now? … The money’s rolling in and this is fun,” he said.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I thought Moonves was forced to resign years ago cause of sexual Assault allegations

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Indeed he was.
