News and information from Europe πͺπΊ
(Current banner: La Mancha, Spain. Feel free to post submissions for banner images.)
Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed
- on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons)
- on Middle-East topics: Al Jazeera
- on Hungary: Euronews
Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com
(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)
Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
We just surpassed 800k! over 100k in ~24hrs, this is insane momentum.
We totally got this and can mayyybe complete the petition in 2 days π
Great! Just saw total signatures 832.969 atm.
Sign up your mom and dad.
Update we are at 79%. We can do this
Compared to the other 11 months, the initiative is going VERY fast now. There is a chance we might catch up!
There is also a possible upcoming video by PewDiePie, that will surely bring more people.
Huh this and the thing with GrapheneOS. Has he actually redeemed himself?
He's gone full FOSS.
He switched to linux a while ago, and went down the rabbit hole from there. His most recent video is about self hosting Nextcloud and Vaultwarden in order to ditch google services.
He's legitimately transitioned into a fosstuber.
Did he do anything wrong in the first place? I haven't followed him in a while. Besides the bridge incident of course...
Well there's his racist and anti-semetic remarks in the past, as well as having followed far right mouthpieces on twitter. The worst though was an apology video for anti-semitic remarks where he chose to wear a hoody featuring prominent iron crosses.
Something about getting some indians on fiverr to erite some shit on a sign if I remember correctly. It's not like he has not apologised for it and all that. He has not done anything controversial in years.
Oh wow, that would be HUGE!
I signed just to spite that Thor (PirateSoftware) guy. Fuck that guy. Can't even play mage.
did you not look at his mana? what was he supposed to do
Maybe use this proper official # stopkillinggames EU Link directly.
edit: typo killing
Stop playing games?
Lol shit, needed to re-read your comment 3 times before I saw my typo.. Changed and tnx !
Get er done!! Screw Pirate Software and his my daddy was a blizzard exec crap! I hope he looses his channel over this
Already signed and everyone I know who can also already did, really hope we can get this across the finish line.
This is looking like it's going far better than "tax the rich", which failed.
People have their priorities backwards.
Itβs because "stop killing games" is easy to grasp and normal people donβt see a disadvantage for themselves.
"Tax the rich" goes against obscenely rich people, but your average Joe is concerned that he might have to pay higher taxes too. And even when itβs not now, what if he has a secret terminally ill billionaire uncle.
Yeaa, but both is good.
Signed and shared, let's go !!
Thank you for your service
Dito!
Singed 9 months ago and also signed in the name of my wife.
