[–] PaulBunyan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

As a colorblind person, I just see three different colored countries

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 68 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i remember when fukushima nuclear power plant in japan got wrecked in an earthquake. all they talked about in the states was "are WE going to get polluted by nuclears?!?"

[–] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I feel like Japan should be green, here.

[–] MediumGray@lemmy.ca 24 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Maybe. The one thing I can say for sure is that far too much of eastern Europe is coloured green.

Especially the Balkans. Western media doesn’t give two fucks about them.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

nooooo the media in the west cares about when something happens in the west, sooo terrible

An accurate map would include countries like Japan (e.g. 2011 earthquake) and South Korea (e.g. 2022 crowd crush) in the "top coverage" category, but that doesn't fit with the narrative.

i don't know any songs about the tohoku earthquake

Yeah unironically a western-centric take by OP.

Remember: the United States and your precious media is on the same periphery in non-english speaking countries as they are to us.

The US influence on other places is outsized, sure, but only when compared to other cultures influence on us, not compared to local culture.

You need to update this map with the rest of North America in the "A hopeless situation, just pray" or the "Nobody wants to be sad all day" categories.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Even if something tragic happens in America, it better only happen to good looking people because they still won’t give a shit about the rest of us.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago

Correlates with media empire ownership.

Elon isn't enough to sway the stats, even with his personal social network.

[–] remon@ani.social 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Literally do not care.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

South africa has africa in its name, so its a third world country and nothing important is there.

spoiler/s in case its needed.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But Greenland, no?

[–] bestagon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Iceland is white, greenland is inuit

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Need a green dot on notreal

[–] chefdano3@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

As long as it's the correct color green.

[–] brianary@startrek.website 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This would be better with a more accurate projection, like Dymaxion. That black area is so much bigger than it looks here.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Yes! My favorite type of projection.

Also, fun fact: the inventor of the projection, Buckminster Fuller, designed this beauty after the Great Depression and called it the Dymaxion car. 🥴

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

Is it bad that I love this and unironically want one? I bet it would be easier to parallel park than my Jeep.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's like a blimp on wheels.

[–] JackFrostNCola@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Its like a cucumber submarine

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 days ago

...handles about as well as a blimp, too...

[–] brianary@startrek.website 4 points 3 days ago

That, and Troy McClure's house. 😄

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Literally the same if you swap it.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

OP has never heard of Apartheid and how it impacted US Politics.

[–] torch_and_blanket@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

I feel the yellow spreading like a plague.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

That's funny. As someone from South of the US, I don't remember ever reading USian news articles and thinking, jee, this made my day!

[–] SunshineJogger@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago

The world is fucked.

And I have yet to see how lit up monuments have any kind of impact at all for changing anything to the better.

I'd argue that ot does the opposite like: "oh look, they did something." claps hands together. "good, then that's taken care of by someone else."
