This is the third post i made today related to the wedding protests. I hope you people enjoy. I'm sharing these because many of the protesters behind it are getting arrested.

Keep going, ~~King~~ buddy.

I'm glad you are. I love the "No Kings" slogan and that other countries are taking it up. I wish they would call the next protest in America "No Kings II, then whatever they were going to call it here." I guess we could could call it unofficially, "No Kings II."

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

UK here - dearly wish we would take up the No Kings thing... 😔

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

From the outside looking in, the pageantry of it all is probably why it sticks. You also have someone to talk about. We get the drama of US citizens and immigrants being sent to concentration camps or prisons in other countries.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

Also outside looking in:

From what I’ve heard the royals bring in a lot of tourism money.. or used to anyway.. idk about this -ahem- new fella..

Not all heroes wear capes, and you’re a magnificent human for helping spread this content. It’s important.

Why are the protestors getting arrested?

[–] brachiosaurus@mander.xyz 22 points 6 days ago

Law after law the government is criminalizing protests. In St Mark's Square any non-authorized protest is prohibited so even a sit-in could result in breaking the law. Here's the moment they arrested someone in a wheelchair:

Italy has a fascist government, and the council of Venice is pro Bezos, claiming that somehow he has more right to rent Venice than its citizens have to live in it.

Italy has a fascist government

How?

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The granddaughter of the guy that literally invented fascism is in Italian parliament right now.

And she's really proud of her granddaddy.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Ugh, that sucks.

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Great work. Way to stick your neck out.

(Accidentally dropped the comment on the main post instead of this comment, oops)

I hope knowing that people all over the world viscerally hate him damages his calm on an ongoing basis.

It is just a reinforcement for us. He has probably never had more than the ever-elusive 'fleeting high'. He's in a skinner box, where he has already maxed out the ill effects of one of our more powerful tools (money). He has to go to ever further extents to quiet the demons that most of us had to cope with since adolescence.

To drive the point home, he'll never be able to make any new authentic connections in his life (if he ever could in the past). While it is a bit copium, and I am as frothy in the mouth about his antics as any well-meaning individual, I do find it one of the constant, if smallest, wins.

It's always projection with these people!

[–] BroBot9000@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

Love it!! Just needs a little Luigi emoji 👌

[–] TheProtagonist@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This will come out nicely on the wedding pictures.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

It's probably pretty easy to shop out

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I haven’t been reading too much news lately. What is going on with Jeff Bezos and why are people protesting him?

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He's getting married in Venice with all of his friends there. People are protesting because Venice is pretty crowded with tourists and vulnerable to climate change. Also he's Jeff Bezos.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 11 points 1 week ago (4 children)

$20 million wedding in Venice.

[–] Cenzorrll@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

With an absurd number of billionaires flying in on private jets to attend

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

And celebrities

https://people.com/celebrities-arriving-at-jeff-bezos-and-lauren-sanchezs-wedding-photos-11761650

Just as tonedeaf as them pretending "we're just like you" when COVID happened and they were forced to stay in their mansions as everyone struggled.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

11of 12
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez

Lmao well, I'd hope they went to the wedding

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah what a dumb part of the article lol. That being said, I'm sure there were more celebrities that managed to sneak in without being recognized

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't even care who goes. It's a big party. Why not.

I love the publics response though. We need more of that.

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

It's not the wedding. It's that he wanted to take over the entire centre of Venice.

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly, that doesn't strike me as a ton of money for his wedding. He must not care too much for this wife.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Most of the dowery went into her face

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Wow, and it still failed.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

Which is probably like $100 to him

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago

And the orange menace's POS daughter is attending, as icing on the cake.

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It's time for Led by Donkeys to get involved.

[–] crapwittyname@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Forza a qeui ragazzi
