Single episodes:

Little Witch Academia - the original OVA. There isn't a single wasted frame - it's just 23 minutes of pure genius. (And as a matter of fact, I just rewatched it again last night).

Sword Art Online S01E04 - The Black Swordsman. The introduction of Silica and Pina and just a great, warm, funny, satisfying standalone episode, and particularly because it's sort of an antidote to S01E03, The Red-nosed Reindeer, which is arguably better, but so emotionally devastating.

YuruYuri S01E05 - When Akari and the Cicadas Cry. Kyouko drags Ayano to Comiket, Chitose discovers yuri doujins, and Chinatsu kisses Akari. Funny and cute even by YuruYuri's lofty standards.

86 Episode 23 - the last third of this episode is quite simply the most beautiful and touching thing I've ever seen, and it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Akudama Drive Episode 12 - It seems like it should be tragic, but it just kicks so much ass. " Serves you right."

Non Non Biyori S01E10 - We Watched the First Sunrise of the Year - I just love the dynamic between Kaede and Renge

Movies:

Spirited Away Duh. How could I not?

Ghost in the Shell (1995) Still the most concise visit to that universe. I like much of the rest of the franchise too, but that movie stands above them all.

The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi Just a great movie from start to finish. "John... Smith!"

Redline Buried under the stylish carnage and sensory overload is a satisfying tale of honor and redemption, and a surprisingly cute love story.

Series:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Even after all these years and all these rewatches, it just grabs me by the throat and drags me along.

Kemurikusa - Low budget done right. Great mysterious setting, good characters and satisfying story.

FLCL - I especially like episode 1 and episide 3, but it's short enough and there are enough other good moments that I figure I might as well watch it all, so I do.

And a couple of recent additions: Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! and Make Heroine ga Oosugiru! Eizouken is an unabashed love letter to anime with wonderful characters, and Makeine is a great multi-genre whatever-it-is, and Anna in particular is a terrific character.

I wouldn’t say regularly, but I have rewatched Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist (both original and brotherhood), and Samurai Champloo several times.

Edit: Frieren will probably be on my multiple rewatch list in the future.

FLCL because it's funny and short and really good.

Inuyasha because it's my favorite. Tho, I rewatch FLCL more often because it's only 6 episodes.

I keep forgetting a new FLCL even exists. I need to finish that one.

I wouldn't say regularly, but I've watched Princess Mononoke more than once. Likewise Akira.

Though they are topped by Porco Rosso, perhaps my favourite Ghibli movie. Primarily for that one line - you can guess which one - but other reasons as well.

I don't really rewatch things because there is still so much more things to watch that I haven't and there is limited time to watch anime. I have rewatched Non Non Biyori's first episode a few times. The first minutes are really good and I really like the cherry blossom tree scene including the build up to it. I don't have a dedicated time in the year to watch it though.

FLCL is a quick, fun six part jaunt I love to revisit.

Cowboy Bebop is so episodic you can just throw any one of them on out of order and have a good time.

And anything Miyazaki. I've watched Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Monanoke half a dozen times each.

Trigun- the original series, I've watched it completely three times and started a fourth when I was disappointed by the new series.

The theme song kicks ass, the story is a bit of a slow burn at first when you think it is just a light hearted buffoon wandering the wasteland but it slowly develops into a western adventure with bigger stakes than anyone on the planet really realizes are happening.

A Certain Scientific Railgun yearly. It's what got me into anime back in 2021, started a >4 year long streak of watching anime every single day. It's not a set date, I just start the rewatch 365 (366 on leap years) days after I last finished it. I've seen it four times now: first subs, then dubbed, then again in '23, then again in '24.

Haibane Renmei roughly every spring. Part of a discord server that did a group rewatch in '24 and '25. Looking forward to next year

FLCL the soundtrack and nostalgia are just perfect

I go through Slayers every couple of years. It's hard to call it "good", but it's by far my favorite anime.

It's the only anime I've ever seen that really captures the spirit of a D&D player. The characters successfully beat the BBEG in every season, but act like dysfunctional clowns the whole way through.

Mushishi is extremely re-watchable.

Jest aside, I rewatch whole seasons only once in a while. What I would usually rewatch are certain scenes that felt more impactful, and sometimes whole episodes - usually the last episode - that are climatic.

What's considered impactful? Either sakuga fight scenes to make my inner little boy happy, or inspiring scenes where a character overcame all odds to achieve victory (of whatever form).

Welcome to the N.H.K! and Kara no Kyoukai

The former I watched during a time in my life I was very sad and it was pretty emotionally fulfilling, the latter has a hot lady (and a hot femboy) that kills people.

I've been rewatching K-ON! and Robotics;Notes pretty often for a while. Currently rewatching Bocchi The Rock, and I might give Yuru Camp another round one of these days. I'm not seasonal about it, though.

Project A-ko (the first film) is probably one of my favorite anime films of all time. I saw it for the first time when I was a pre-teen back in the '90s and I've re-watched it a ton over the last few decades. Something about a super-powerful girl who can run at mach speeds and wreck machines with her bare hands just appealed to me as a kid. It was very inspiring and I always dreamed of growing up to be as strong as her.

I discovered Ghost in the Shell (the first movie) while I was living in Japan in my late teens and it really resonated with me. I got to watch the TV series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex as it was releasing in Japan. I'm actually re-watching that whole series now, since they've announced a new series coming soon. The new Ghost in the Shell show is animated in the unique style of the original manga, so I'm excited to see if it'll be faithful to the manga.

I discovered a ton of anime while I was living in Japan in the early 2000s, so I have a bunch of classics I regularly re-watch. Excel Saga is another one. I love how chaotic and over-the-top Excel is. The anime is way different from the manga, but it was made when the manga was only partway complete, so it didn't really have a direction and chose to be chaotic and disjointed instead. Which really works well.

D•N•A² is another classic I love to re-watch periodically. I dunno why I like that one, but it's a fun comedy/drama romance story.

Golden Boy was such a ridiculous and perverse show, but it encouraged me to continually seek out knowledge and experience, so I enjoy watching that one over and over again. Too bad the original manga creator is a narcissistic, mysoginistic piece of shit. I enjoy both the show and the manga, but learning about that dude really sours his work. It's no wonder Golden Boy never got more than a 6-episode OVA; most people can't stand to work with him.

I was living in Japan when Naruto first released and I followed that show religiously. I remember reading articles about this "hidden gem" in Japan that would never be imported to America because of some issue with the rights being tied up in a handful of studios. I guess they got it worked out though, because by the time I moved back to America, Naruto started showing up everywhere. I never actually finished that whole series (I got about 100 episodes into the original series), but I've restarted it a handful of times. I plan to finally finish it soon.

I'm currently on my third re-watch of One Piece. At over 1,000 episodes, it's a slog every time; I've spent months slowly picking away at episodes and I'm going to catch up to the latest stuff soon. I also just re-watched the live action series last night, since I've recently learned they've started filming for season 2.

Finally, the first anime anything I ever watched was a movie called Puss 'n Boots Travels Around the World, the third in a Toei Animation series of Puss 'n Boots films. I grew up watching it on VHS as a little kid and had no idea it was anime until I sought it out as an adult many years later. I have a lot of love and nostalgia for that film, so I re-watch it a lot.

EDIT: The Toei Animation mascot is actually Puss 'n Boots from these old movies. I dunno why I never pieced that together until I was much older.

Gintama is always a fun watch

Blue Period is mine. I can't quite name why, but it just resonates with me every time. I'd love a second season, but the anime nearly caught up to the manga when it was released.
