Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

That included Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange that donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee in January. The following month, Trump’s Securities and Exchange Commission dismissed a lawsuit against the company.

The moment I saw the banners on that stage, I started the process of closing my Coinbase account. Those corrupt fuckers can rot.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 9 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Any recommendations where to move? I’m in the EU

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 6 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I've heard that Kraken is alright. I'm going to close my account too and switch.

Coinbase sucks anyway. The app lags and times out constantly, and I can't use my Coinbase Card cause every six months some asshole in The Philippines tries to use it to make a a large purchase, so I've locked the card permanently. Customer service is too lazy to do anything about it, and I'm a Coinbase One member. Not anymore.

[–] Ronno@feddit.nl 3 points 6 hours ago

I'm on Kraken since 2017, hadn't had an issue since. Even with larger deposits/withdrawals.

[–] ooterness@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Other exchanges? No idea, sorry. I never held much; I just sold everything and transferred it back to my regular bank account.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Right no worries. I like to have my eggs in multiple baskets but don’t do many transsctions, so it doesn’t really matter where I hold them.

[–] JPAKx4@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 13 hours ago

If you're only holding then switch to a wallet with private keys that you hold. If you ever decide that you want to trade back to fiat then you can go through an exchange.

If any exchange holds your wallet then you can lose it all if they go bankrupt. If it's your own keys then it's not going anywhere.

Speedrunning Idiocracy, brought to you by Carl's Jr.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 50 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

I feel that's indirectly and insult to President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho. He wasn't perfect, but he wanted what was best for his people and he listened to the smartest man in the world when given evidence. Trump can't hold a candle to the man Camacho was.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 12 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

also agree, a trump equivelant would have executed not sure the second the IQ test came in.

Honestly the most unbelievable part of that movie is, the president seems to be one of the smartest people born in that generation. Yeah he seems dumb by our standards, but you put him next to the lawyers and everyone else in that society... he actually seems pretty brilliant.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 7 points 15 hours ago

The most amazing thing is that he actually gave a damn about his people and nation. Can't say I ever really felt that with any president during my life.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I appreciate this argument when Idiocracy comes up but I feel it misses the overall point;

They had to get to that point before the time when the movie takes place so at some point in the past there was a worse government than President Camacho’s.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

For sure. I just can't pass an opportunity to pump up Camacho especially if it means putting down Trump.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Not even a new account. Did I somehow Beetlejuice you here?

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 16 hours ago

Carl's Jr. Should sponsor this administration and see if they can get anyone to take the same deal. Brought to you by Carl's Jr.

[–] KingPorkChop@lemmy.ca 6 points 18 hours ago

Not looking forward to getting a medical checkup, but the future Starbucks sounds fun.

Paul Verhoeven’s Idiocracy

At this point Americans can’t really claim to have an independent state. We are a corporate sponsored entity. We are NASCAR if it was a country. Every war we’ve fought since the Civil War has been about money and securing our influence…to make money.

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Nascar turns left not right

[–] Ronno@feddit.nl 1 points 6 hours ago

NASCAR is nice comparison though, driving around in circles, chasing their own tail

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 15 hours ago

I mean if you make your country all about business, treat it like a business, elect a business person, pander to, etc...

Oh my god, we're all slaves 😬

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 119 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Trump declared over 600million in income from sponsors and digital currency; he should pay for this military parade out of pocket.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 17 points 18 hours ago

Corporate dictatorship, doing corporate dictatorship things, because it's a corporate dictatorship.

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 12 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

wtf is the point of sponsors if they’re not the ones paying??

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

They paid Trump(I would assume) Tax payers paid for the army to be there.

[–] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

This is like a Roman Legion being sponsored by a fire insurance scam

No, but he's definitely the type to have the military go whip the sea.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 36 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This is NOT Corruption! CORRUPTION is when you Use your DADS last Name to get OVERSEAS JOBS! That's the ONLY Definition of Corruption! NOTHING else is Corruption!

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

And that only applies if your last name is Biden

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Ohh good, I'm safe.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 33 points 20 hours ago
[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 10 points 16 hours ago

Definitely nothing corrupt about this. Aside from the quid pro quo, that is.

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (2 children)

I thought browser back button hijacking was something you weren't allowed to do. Seems like most news corporations that get posted to Lemmy have to take me to ads or more stories instead of letting me go back. I guess on federated stuff you're expected to have a slicker setup than a mostly stock android.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 10 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

"works for me"^TM^ (but I don't see ads anywhere with uBlock, so maybe that's why)

[–] gil2455526@lemmy.eco.br 3 points 16 hours ago

I just open all links in private window. Keeps the history clean.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone have video and audio of it? Want to save it for later use.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

If you play the video on the site and right-click it, it allows you to save the mp4. Edit away and meme it up :D

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago

And I thought this post was a little too far.

I guess they just can’t help themselves.
