Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Pentagon pizza monitor, Waffle House index, Big Mac index, what else can we measure with restaurants

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 21 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How many donuts will fit on it - the Dunkin Dick Index

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Does that measure girth, or length?

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

And the number of remaining sprinkles once the donuts are removed are proportional to surface area and thus girth.

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

A sprinkle in your urethra sounds like hell

Nothing that can't be traced back to physical goods is worth damn. Much of the most reliable segments of the stock market go back to real goods. This is why Bitcoin is literal nonsense.

I heard there was some connection to the price of a slice of pizza in NY and a subway ticket. I don't know how true it is.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 47 points 8 months ago (4 children)

Pentagon-adjacent pizza joints also got much busier than usual during Israel’s 2024 missile strike on Iran, it said, as there are “a multitude of fast food restaurants in the Pentagon complex, but no pizza places”.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago

Jesus why don't they just open a pizza spot in the pentagon?? Surely this must be a headache for them lol

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It seems like it's a national security issue to open a Dominos in the Pentagon I guess

[–] joby@programming.dev 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It kinda sounds like it's a security risk for them not to

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 1 points 8 months ago

That's what I meant. But it raises a question, can the Pentagon not afford to get catered food for when they call a bunch of people in to do overtime?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Seriously who the fuck would open a pizza place in DC now?

[–] klu9@piefed.social 3 points 8 months ago

Especially as the people who believe in "pizza place basements" are now running the show.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 8 months ago

There was a Sbarro's when I worked there.

Is it gone now?

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How many people does it take to passively watch something? There is active involvement from Washington, even if it’s just speeding up deliveries and keeping armories stocked in Israel.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I will preface this by saying I don't believe for a second the US was ignorant of the intent to attack.

In fairness, if one of your allies that you've been giving tons of weapons to suddenly decides to attack its neighbor one day, especially when both countries have nuclear capabilities, you can bet your ass the people in charge of militaries all over the world will be watching just in case shit hits the fan.

For instance if France went insane and attacked England, you can be assured all of the EU defense departments (let's pretend their defensive treaties aren't in place) will be watching it like a hawk the moment it starts.

Again, I believe the US government had full foreknowledge and would have given its blessing for the attack if Israel cared to wait for it. They definitely shared Intel that made it happen.

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

I can see that. Also, in my post above I forgot about the shooting down of Iranian missiles and drones, which seems to have happened a lot? And preparing for retaliatory strikes in Iraq and nearby areas

[–] kayky@thelemmy.club 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

So... they knew, didn't tell us, then lied.

Great government we have. Truly representative of the people.

Also 9/11 happened because of Israel. So yeah.

[–] Buske@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

The GOP knew, But they wanted the war more.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

It's okay folks just go to bed all you have to do is lie profusely if anything gets fucked up as a direct result of your actions this is the new world baby!
