So the source page just doesn't exist. But https://mapsinterlude.wordpress.com/ does. When you visit it, this post is easily found, but do they list any of their sources? No. I checked a few sites that list top apps by country and just checked Denmark, because that's where I'm from and temu was #8.

This can't be correct. No way people use Signal more than Whatsapp in NL. And Temu, this app Google Play tries to spam you with? Why?

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 hours ago

It is the most downloaded app in 2024

I think most Dutchies already had Whatsapp installed prior to 2024.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

pretty sure this is bullshit. have seen some other maps on there too. unconvincing stats with no sources.

[–] goatbeard@lemm.ee 11 points 7 hours ago

TIL Bulgaria is the best country in Europe

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Klarna. Why? It is such a shit company.

[–] derpgon@programming.dev 2 points 3 hours ago

My card keeping app was bought by Klarna. Had to migrate my account so I could even view them. Turns out Klarna is a bank, so now even deleting my account leaves sensitive information because banks have to keep those.

Also the UI was shit.

And people say America is doomed, damn.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 9 points 9 hours ago

Goddamn right Crimea is part of Ukraine.

[–] Sir_Simon_Spamalot@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

Brainrot generation, here we come!

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 30 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Out of everything the most depressing is Klarna. It's a buy now pay later microloans that should just be forbidden.

[–] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 2 points 3 hours ago

We get a lot of advertising for it here in Belgium and tons of webshops support it, sadly. What a trash company.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 131 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

That's depressing as fuck.

[–] Cherry@piefed.social 33 points 17 hours ago

I know. Cheap crap is a stain.

Serbia has an itchy delete finger, apparently.

[–] abfarid@startrek.website 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, what's up with Latvia? Why would people mass-download a grocery store app? Besides, iki is better. At least it was 10 years ago. Do they still have iki?

[–] Benaaasaaas@group.lt 3 points 5 hours ago

Because of discounts

The Netherlands continues to be my top choice for a place to live if I end up fleeing my country. If they'll have me.

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

It's expensive. Don't forget to buy the floor for your apartment.

Edit: I'm serious about the floor. Apartments don't come with flooring included.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 14 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

I'm sure a lot of us here can say that's the only one on the map we have

Loving Bulgaria. Everybody's doing social networks, meanwhile they're "ooh, a puzzle game!"

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 7 hours ago

You know, I mostly hear about how Soviet-looking Bulgaria still is from my family over that way. Everyone playing Tetris adds to that.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 32 points 17 hours ago

Temu is more like a capitalism network than a social network, but yeah Chad Bulgaria playing tetris instead of giving into consumerism.

[–] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 52 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (5 children)

People really use temu? I thought it was all crap.

Edit:

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 26 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

This is most downloaded not most used, so I'd reckon a lot of people heard about it, downloaded it, used it, realised it was all crap, then deleted it.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

People would rather download the app to figure that out than just visit the website? That's still depressing.

But probably temu was like get 50% off your first order via the app or something like that?

"Wtf is TEMU?"

Oh...

Also, wtf is MA IMA?

[–] abbiistabbii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Temu is basically Wish.

Maxima is a Lithuanian retail chain which operates throughout the Baltics.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 3 points 3 hours ago

That red X on a red background 👌

[–] MemmingenFan923@feddit.org 26 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

Only Netherland and Bulgaria can be proud of themselves.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 26 points 15 hours ago

Nobody can be as proud of themselves (because of this list I mean) as Lithuania: "LT72 is a website intended to prepare Lithuanian residents for emergencies. It allows residents to learn how to be be prepared for an accident, ..."

Swedish fintech for online payments. A lot of young people go into debts with their "shop now, buy later" function

[–] kadup@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

So credit card with extra steps?

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Credit card with no interest or very very low interest.

It's like lay-away for people old enough to remember that, except you get the product immediately instead of later.

[–] gigachad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

Credit cards are not that wide spread in many parts of Europe opposed to the US. I guess it's more like PayPal with the possibility to pay later. But yes, I also use my debit/credit card for online payment, which is a step more as I have to enter many numbers for that.

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Layaway without the wait

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Credit card with no rewards and more predatory payment scheme

Is Temu really that much cheaper compared to Aliexpress to be "worth it"?

[–] FMT99@lemmy.world 13 points 16 hours ago

They have better marketing
