Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Narcissists hate being ignored or called unimportant. Trump flippantly dismissing him as “nuts” and moving on is the ultimate insult.

I’m sure Musk has an army reining him in, but that’s legitimately hard for Musk to ignore.

Musk may be the richest man on earth, but there's several things he craves that none of that money can ever buy. Like respect. Love. Being able to hold your pee. A working dick.

You know, the simple quiet enjoyments the majority of working class people don't have nearly as much issues with.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

The funny thing is that money can definitely buy respect, Carnegie and Rockefeller still have their names scattered about from their so called philanthropy and earned a grudging respect from it. With a fraction of his wealth Musk could've done a small but notable infrastructure and building deal in a small town or two and utterly revived them. Viola grudging respect.

Most of his money is in the US and DJ Trump can tank Musk easily.DJ Trump doesn't have to worry about winning next term. We are eff'ed

Money can't buy poverty, and if money can't buy everything, let them keep their money.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

he can direct xitter to attack trump and the magats, since alot of voters use xitter still.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 54 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What cant' a couple of millions won't fix? Musk just needs to "donate" a few more millions and it will be all water under the bridge.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 74 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I don't think Trump needs Musk anymore at this point. With all his crypto grifts, market manipulation and other schemes he made quite a penny for himself.

I'm also bet Trump would like for Musk to be knocked down a few pegs, so he could point at him and show the other oligarchs what happens when they don't play along.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 51 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Musk may be more valuable as a scapegoat to trump with all the pending fallout of DOGE costs and the coming recession.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It was meant to be this way.

They are litterally following a WWF script

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Fucking Pandas.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Turns out hiring Linda MacMahon as the Secretary of Education was just show she could teach them how to write wrasslin' scripts.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I feel you. That's exactly what Putin did. Get rid of one oligarch so the other ones knew what happens if you don't toe the party line.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You mean someone is going to mysterously fall out the window?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 7 points 1 year ago

Nothing is off the table.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 4 points 1 year ago

Lol... Trump isn't Putin. He hasn't consolidated power, he hasn't sent assassins after political enemies, he didn't even have the balls to have a stand off with the courts (once his ratfuck strategies got blocked)

He's a sleazy real estate developer with a melting brain, he's not playing 5D chess - he's openly taking bribes and making world shaking reactions to getting his feelings hurt

There's a plan, but Trump just signs what they give him. The shit he does on his own is just impulsive

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

There's a neat little concept called the keys to power. A totalitarian dictator doesn't hold all the power power - they must share it with generals, officials, oligarchs, aristocracy - many people who extend their control. A president has even less, they need to spread it wider

If you lose the keys to power, your own power dwindles. Trump had the oligarchs, and the apparent head oligarch (Musk) has been ousted. What does that say to the other oligarchs? Most of them were threatened into compliance... If Musk breaks with Trump without consequences, his authority dwindles. If Musk gets deported or something, Trump's value as an ally is depleted

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

A CGP Grey scholar, I see.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

oh yea, and musk has control of the starlinks, he can easily shut them all off to punish red states that depend on it. also he can help primary republicans magats, and INSTALL other gop down the line.

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As much as I'm loathed to admit it, Trump probably has a legitimate case to seize assets in the name of national security if Musk starts trashing stuff.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 3 points 1 year ago

Why loathe to admit it? I'm cheerfully reminding everyone that will listen that it's always been an option. The government can revoke a corporate charter whenever they want, for whatever reason they want... If Trump wants to set a precedent that emergency powers can do that, I'd love that for us

Win or lose, maga would no longer be politically viable, and it would make corporations fear the government more, as they should

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Reverse South African Prince scam…

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You could swap the names Musk and Trump and it would still be true.

[–] SilverCode@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Trump is so spiteful that this will be wonderful to watch.

Anybody have a TLDR for people who have been blissfully unaware of the Space Karen vs Twitler slap fight?

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 year ago

You ever know two 8 year olds who were close friends and then got in a fight?

You're all caught up.

Essentially: Elon gets mad about the recent budget bill in congress. He's also angry he can't stay in his special government employee role full-time. He is also getting pressure from his shareholders for EV credits getting cut during his time in government.

Elon starts tweeting against the bill, and this starts a back and forth, with Elon and Trump fighting like exes trying to be vague

The subtext is quickly dropped and tensions amplify until Elon threatens to decommissioned his dragon rocket. Trump retaliates by saying that Elon kept him out of the loop on DOGE and was useless. This part is a bit hazy for me. But this is during their main spat when Elon was posting on Twitter non-stop.

This eventually culminates in Elon admitting publicly that Trump is in the Epstein files. Trump threatened to retaliate by pulling all government contracts that involve Elon's companies.

Elon, realizing he burned the last political bridge he has, is likely trying to salvage what he can. It is likely to go nowhere as Trump is as vindictive and petty as they come.

The first comment is the TL:DT of the article

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I want Lonnie to challenge Donnie to a cage fight. Alas, he’d back out of that if Donnie accepted, just like with Zuckafuck. But Donnie shitting his diaper in a chokehold would be hilarious. And Lonnie pissing himself from all the ketamine would be assured.

Can we please try to make this happen?

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

Don would chicken out first, TACO

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They are both out of shape. Probably fight by proxy

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago

Oh yes, please create a new party buddy.

It's fun to watch two people competing in the marketplace of ideas
