I'm migrating from lemm.ee and just created an account here but for some reason I'm seeing only a handful to zero comments on sh.itjust.works posts even when they show hundreds of comments.

I'm vaguely familiar with similar federation issues where you might not see old comments if you're the first person to subscribe to a community on a different instance, but I don't understand why I can't see comments on posts from what is now my native instance.

Can anyone clarify what's going on?

Check your language settings. Either Undetermined or English may be disabled.

It was set to "browser default" and when I switched it to English I was able to see the checklist and all the common languages are checked.

I am now viewing from a web browser and everything seems fine but I still can't see anything in Sync. I may need to log out and back in again, but at this point it seems like it's no longer an issue with sh.itjust.works.

Thanks!

Edit: it must be some weird bug with Sync as no matter what I do it isn't displaying comments on most posts. While googling I discovered that Sync is dead which is unfortunate as I've been using it for like two years now. I downloaded Voyager and all seems to be fine now.

That's the most likely source of the problem. I've had this same problem before.

It may be "blocked users" or users from a blocked instance (you blocked or sh.itjust.works blocked). Can you provide an example?

Yes, this very post of mine 😆

I only have one blocked user and no blocked instances. I'm going to check the language settings like others mentioned.

is that sync? sync has some issues with local communities. I think it might get better if you subscribe to the community.

compare with the web version to rule out account related issues.

Yeah it's Sync and in my googling I discovered that it has been abandoned by the developer (unfortunate since I've been using it for around 2 years now). I installed Voyager and it is working fine now, though it will take some getting used to.

not on sh.itjust.works here but can you see my comment?

maybe try checking out the "chat" tab, too? sometimes comments end up there for some reason
