Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

Yet they'll head out and vote Republican every time.

They'll completely forget by the time November rolls around. They may couch surfing with all of their possessions destroyed, but they'll still find a reason to be mad at the libs

Can't wait for gay hurricane season. Lots of bootstraps will be pulled. Well, at least the leopards will be properly fed.

They're still sending those job stealing brown people to the gulag, still a win. Gonna make America great again any day now...

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

REAL Americans just buy a new mansion when one falls down. If you can't do that, you're just a mooch looking for a handout!

Has someone explained to them that sometimes sacrifices have to be made in order to stop that trans girl in Minnesota from playing volleyball? They just need to see the bigger picture.

Pick themselves up by the bootstraps buttercup.

[–] drspawndisaster@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

With all that money not taxed and spent on other countries and college and medical care, I'm sure they can just buy themselves new homes.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemm.ee 49 points 10 months ago

Bullshit. They'll all vote bright red, every time.

I know President Trump said that 'America First, we're gonna help our American folks first,' but we haven't seen the federal folks down here," Tylertown, Mississippi resident Bobby McGinnis.

Have you not been listening?

Can’t afford bootstraps? Thoughts and prayers.

"I know President Trump said that 'America First, we're gonna help our American folks first,' but we haven't seen the federal folks down here," Tylertown, Mississippi resident Bobby McGinnis told PBS.

“I don’t know what you got to do or what you got to have to be able to be declared for a federal disaster area because this is pretty bad,” Tylertown resident Brian Lowery said. “We can’t help you because, whatever, we’re waiting on a letter; we’re waiting on somebody to sign his name. You know, all that. I’m just over it.”

The pending disaster request from Mississippi comes at the same time FEMA has underwent significant changes in its leadership. Former acting FEMA administrator Cameron Hamilton was fired after he publicly disagreed with Trump on his desire to shut down the agency, and a recent internal presentation determined that FEMA was "not ready" to assist with the upcoming 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which officially begins on June 1.

Mississippi isn't the only ruby-red state that has been left in the lurch by the Trump administration. Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) also applied for federal assistance after tornadoes tore through her state this spring, though FEMA denied both her request and her appeal of that rejection. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) also used his allotted time for questioning during a recent Senate testimony by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to beg her to send aid to Missouri after the Show Me State experienced its own spate of deadly tornadoes.

This dude is primed to be convinced that all the bureaucracy getting in his way is the fault of the Shadow Democrats and Mecha Biden.

Trump must have whispered the word “Rich” before “America First”.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

An AI would've gotten it right

[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Thank you for your service!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 25 points 10 months ago

Womp womp... the only emergencies with the Trump administration are declaring fake wars against non-state actors, the non-existent drug trafficking spree from Canada used to impose tariffs, and that a coal power plant needs to keep operating because the air would be too clean otherwise. Helping farmers and other common people? That's a problem for another day.

They're asking for handouts?

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

Maybe if they ate a little less avocado toast and put in some elbow grease, they'd pull themselves up by the bootstraps and gain self-sufficiency. Must be the brown people holding them back.

Trump wants FEMA gone, I’m willing to bet that organization is in the process of getting shut down, they’re just keeping it on the down-low.

You can propagandize it real good tho

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 6 points 10 months ago

I've noticed a lot of them think that tornadoes are being sent by "DNC billionaires" to legitimize "leftist climate change". They think that solar geo engineering is the cause. Anything to not admit climate change is making severe weather more frequent and more intense.

[–] Jerry@feddit.online 5 points 10 months ago

This is the only time when the media should quote morons, not before elections.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Hope it hurts.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

If it rips up a red state, is it really a disaster?
