A phone with multiboot?

Sounds interesting. Ubuntu Touch has been very disappointing in its lack of real progress. We seriously need an alternative to the current Android/iOS duopoly.

I'm about to juat get a sim card for a laptop and run that since I rarely make phone calls anyway.

@promitheas @Tundra

Interesting.

Are there any google apps on this at all?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

/e/os is a degoogled os, so not out of the box. Im not sure if you can opt to install them yourself later (why would you though) and i dont want to put any of that crap on this just to test it. The closest to a google thing it has is gApps, which is an open source implementation of google services.

@promitheas

ok, thanks for the heads up. I don't want any Google Apps, and I'm working to completely degoogle everything here.

I am aware of fairphone. It would be good if more phones follow their example. One thing that bothers me with them is that they don't have the latest high end processors and tend to lag a lot after a couple of years.

@Tundra @MMNT I am so tempted. The back glass of my iPhone 13 mini which i bought used, shattered and replacing it would cost >300โ‚ฌโ€ฆ

I always said the framework laptop guys could come out with a Linux-first phone and just put something like PostMarketOS or Mobian on it and be done with it. They at least have a record on letting the parts get replaced/customized.

Isn't Volla's hardware coming from Gigaset? Gigaset makes made in Germany phones but recently was acquired by a Hong Kong company

Perfect timing for me as I'm looking for a new phone anyway. Let's compare it's features
