I made a mistake in my return (overpaid) and immediately filed an amendment when I realized in the same day. Amendments can take up to 16 weeks to review. Glad mine was done within 4, and I got my money back before the IRS gets totally broken.

If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS
The tax software had a broken required form for an obscure tax credit we were getting. The tax software company said it would take a few weeks to fix the form. We simply skipped the credit entirely, and filed as soon as we could knowing trump was tearing down the IRS. As soon as we got our refund, we filed the amended return using the paper form for the obscure tax credit. I think its entirely possible we never see that one get processed nor that money returned.
My parents have to file on paper every year because the IRS keeps claiming that their prior year AGI is wrong every single year despite using the exact values from their prior year returns downloaded directly from the IRS website and they typically don't get their refund until October.
