I don't understand, what kind of software such a thing would require?

I would look into raspberry pi or arduino; both of those has thriving communities and lots of guides.

This looks very cool stuff however these solar panel lightning bulbs are autonomous and their form factor very tiny. Raspberry pies a very cool stuff to tinker and learn stuff but they are not exactly what I'm looking for.
However your link is interesting ! It seems they have some tutorials for basic electronics :) that's more like what I'm looking for, so thank you very much for the pointer !
