Cool - haven't heard of this before. Thanks for sharing!

From a quick glance at their site I wouldn't say they're a Spotify alternative. AFAIK Spotify is mainly for music "consumers" aka "people who like listening to music".

This service's seems to be geared more towards content creators, that need good quality music with simple licensing, or businesses like stores and restaurants that want some nice background music.

Their limited catalog would have a hard time competing with Spotify & Co..

I'm just going to point out that Spotify is Swedish.

Half Swedish. Their NYC office is just as big as the Stockholm office, and they are listed on the NYSE. Also their CEO is a huge ass and a unionbuster.

I am Swedish, btw.

While small, they also contributed to Trump's grift which is why you'll see alot of people suggesting alternatives for it

Edit: directed at Op, not the person I'm replying to as they're clearly zoned in already

Nestle is swiss. It is still one of the worst companies in the world. Don't support terrible companies.

Spotify is a shit company.

  • They pay artists peanuts (0.3ยข compared to apple's 1ยข and qobuz's 1.3ยข) but not only that, they put arbitrary thresholds that artists don't get paid at all under, and when the artist goes over that threshold, they don't get back pay, they only get paid for additional streams on top of it, and it is a monthly threshold so it resets constantly.

  • They push AI slop unlabeled onto consumers so that they get to keep 100% of profits instead of having to pay out artists and record labels

  • Spotify gives money to right wing efforts and their CEO is reportedly a right wing nationalist. They also gave money to the trump election

  • Spotify invests in war companies, particularly partners with one that is trying to use mass location data to spy on people and use in targeted drone attacks and such. Hmmm, I wonder if one of the biggest apps in the world that tracks and harvests all user data will use that data to help their extremely large investment and partner's war machine?

  • on android, Spotify just works bad. Muting albums after a few songs with the only way to unmute being skipping backwards and then scrubbing in the song. It happens over and over. This only happens on albums, not Spotify-created playlists with the same songs.

And more ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Check out Qobuz rather. Its catalog is extensive, less clutter than on spotify and higher streaming quality. And its french.

Did qobuz by now implement a way to check their catalogue without agreeing to an abo? As far as I know they haven't ...

I won't check them out if they have such shady practices and I wish people would stop recommending them to be honest: that's just predatory to link a trial to a credit card and not give any option to browse the offering even without listening.

Qobuz is sadly still missing tons of niche artists that I like. That's why I'm still stuck on Spotify (although I'm using a modded app so I don't have to give them money)
