Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I'm not sure if there's any soulslike other than Lies of P that has a companion in it that accompanies you throughout your journey through the game. And many people didn't enjoy Gemini because of his quippy nature and retelling of main plot points when they happen.

Are you among those people who did not like Gemini? If yes, why and how could Round 8 have made him more to your liking?

And would you be opposed to an NPC follower that is your constant companion? Think, Solaire went along with you the entire game and helped in battle. Would you enjoy that?

I hated the Gemini in Lies of P, and unfortunately he made my gaming experience worse That being sad, I'm not against companions in games per se. Disco Elysium is an example how properly made companion should look like. To think about, how I would implement a "perfect Gemini"... Hmm, I would rely on the fact he lost memory, and his questline would be to restore it. As you progress in the game and visit certain locations, he remembers lore events he participated in, and tells you about them (maybe in Stargazer menus, like Melina). In the very end, when you arrive to the island, and see flashbacks with Legendary Stalker, he remembers her persona, and that would be the end of his questline and a teaser for the DLC.
