I hate guns and always thought open-carry was stupid. I get it now. When government thugs are taking people from the street and "disappearing" them, the rest of the citizens (who won't put up with that crap) need to be ready on the spot, while it is happening.

At the time? In a four-against-one situation? They will vaporize you. If you decide to go 2A in the moment of an ICE kidnapping you'll end up a page 12 story and leave your mother without a son. You're not John Wick and they will be ready for you with body armor and better training.

If you want to serve refugee communities there are many, many ways that don't involve the inevitable loss of your own life in extreme, violent ways.

Edit: Be real, real careful when internet tough guys try to encourage you to commit violence. People who really do stuff like this don't talk about it first, so there's a 100% chance what you're reading was posted by a keyboard warrior or a fed.

Better training? Not from what i’ve seen. They appear to be scared children with guns and cs grenades that go off at any loud noise.

Better funding. Definitely not better training.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Better funding. Their "training" is practically non-existent

Isn't this why Americans have so stridently been justifying their need for guns? To protect themselves against tyranny and government overreach? And now it happens they're all like "Ummm. . . You first!"

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's where American individualism collides with the reality that only collective resistance is effective. "You first" is each person realizing that individual resistance will get them killed. Because the USA is so steeped in the myth of the individual fighting evil singlehandedly with a gun, and in the "collectivism = communism = bad" propaganda, it's taking time for the population to adjust to reality and organize. Unfortunately the fascists keep busy in the meantime.

Yeah there's only one kind of whistle for ICE, in my opinion

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Still stupid. Carry a gun and ICE will just murder you.

[–] eletes@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Murdered on the street or murdered in a detention center, same outcome

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Most people will calculate that there's a chance of survival in detention but no chance of surviving a gun battle with multiple cops. Armed resistance needs to be organized and collective, because the individual calculus is always this.

They don’t need to murder you. The criminal cases against ICE protesters in Texas hinge on the government’s assertion that carrying a weapon to a protest is evidence that you are planning a terrorist act (also, wearing black, using Faraday bags for your phone, and traveling to protests in groups are all now considered evidence that you are planning terrorism). So, carry a gun near ICE and they will call you a terrorist and disappear you.

Murder is bad optics, but label someone a terrorist and America will cheer while they execute you.
