Holy shit. I never thought about that.

Is trump the first non-straight president??? THIS is the guy that will represent LGBQT?

Holy fuck I do not understand life....

Probably Lincoln. From that link (emphasis mine):

Mainstream historians generally hold that Lincoln was heterosexual… However, his intense bonds with men may or may not have had more meaning to them, with one notable case being his close friend Joshua Speed, with whom Lincoln lived together – and slept in the same bed as – for four years.

The documentary about him dealing with vampires doesn't mention it at all though

Vampires are extremely gay coded though.

[–] drolex@sopuli.xyz 7 points 13 hours ago

Fellas, is it gay to suck your homie dry?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Alright. I'll take that. Lincoln isn't the hero history makes him out to be, but he's also far from the villain that trump is. I'd say he was a mostly decent person, even if some of his choices were less moral conviction, and more of the path of least resistance. Which is insane, when you consider that the nation was SO divided at the time, that the CIVIL WAR was the path of LEAST resistance.

So for me, Lincoln middle of the road. As opposed to trump, who morally isn't middle of the road. He's more drove off a cliff into a ditch, car is on fire, people are dying, and now he's lying about the cause of the crash.

Yeah, at the very least, Clinton was president before trump, so he’s not the first no matter what. Not that Clinton’s a great guy, but he’s passed the lowest possible bar of “not trump”

i just checked and aparently it was Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir of iceland in 2013, altho technically they were prime minister, not president. the first president would have been Edgars Rinkēvičs in 2023... which is after trumps first presidency.

of course these are only the first openly gay ones. while looking into this i saw that james buchanas in 1844 was the first known gay us president, altho they were closeted. still, they are beating trump in that competition.

altho iirc clinton was a presiden as well? so if trump gave clinton head, then clinton was a gay president before trump... unless its not gay to receive head?

the list of openly gay heads of states is really short btw and well... only starts in 2013. im no one for girlbossing, but this is both quite sad and a positive sign for increasing queer acceptance. let's hope with gay president trump this will get even better

Clinton erasure is par for the course. No one remembers him as the first black President, either.

There was also William the third of Orange, who first lived in the Netherlands where he had no wife but a lot of really close friends who would visit him frequent behind closed doors. He eventually married his cousin Mary Stuart and became the king of England and Scotland in 1689.

William the third of Orange

Ugh! So close! If only it had been "Donald the third of Orange". Then it would be one of those things that you see on TV shows, where they tell a story of a really long time ago (in this case the 1680s), and they just use their normal characters to play the roles of historical figures.

I'm just imagining a Simpsonized version of trump, in 1689 royal garbs, being known as "Donald the third of Orange".

sigh

The jokes write themselves when our president is a joke.

Omg.......that hadn't even dawned on me. How the hell did that go right by me??? WHOOOOOSH!!!!

Lets hope queers choose to smash the state, not lead it.

this is the dumbest timeline

this has been the dumbest possible timeline for longer than you or I can probably remember. I remember noticing the difference between pre-2015 and post-2015, but I've been assured things have been imploding consistently since at least 9/11 and definitely by the 2008 financial crisis.

In other words, it is entirely possible, yes.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Our "What if?" timeline diverged from the main continuity in 2000 when Bush v. Gore was decided.

I've had people tell me Reagan, and other people tell me we've sucked since FDR died. I'm tempted to believe them, with what history I know.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Or when Lincoln was assassinated, since his VP was a Confederate sympathizer and immediately set about undoing his work.
