If the price for their device isn't too high, I might actually finally own a VR headset.
There's no way I'd ever buy something from Meta. All the other devices are way too expensive and compliated to set up. This new Valve Frame is going to be perfect.
If the pricing was going to be what we want, they'd have straight up told us it.
My guess is around $1,000 USD
They haven't said the final price, but they've said it will be cheaper than the index, so definitely the under $1000.

I thought they said they are aiming to at least not be more expensive than the Index? So 1000 USD might still be in the ball range, but it might very likely be less expensive.
Seeing as the Quest is their main competitor it'll have to be less expensive if it's to gain any traction.
Not necessarily. The quest is a very closed ecosystem. Steam frame being far more open is a huge selling point for them and might attract enough enthusiasts.
I wonder if they'll have a package with base stations? I know it doesn't need it, but it might make for a better experience for those who do want it.
The ltt vid said that valve were not going to produce the index hardware anymore. So probably not. But they were open to someone else taking on the index if they wanted.
afaik the steamframe doesn't have the IR detectors required to work with lighthouse based tracking.
trying to use both (steamframe optical track and lighthouse) would be.... interesting

No. They've told LTT and Gamers Nexus that these will not be loss leaders. They want to make hardware sustainable for themselves

Yeah. You can sell 'pure consoles' at a loss and make it up with games sales. This is basically a mini PC that you could reinstall the OS and use for any purpose. Selling it at a loss would be crazy.
100000% it would be crazy. If I remember correctly, the xbox one and ps4 weren't really sold as loss leaders, that or they were priced closer to their manufacturing cost.
I have been thinking, I don't think it really matters to them what the consumer does with their machine. I mean, at the end of the day, you're still gonna be buying steam games simply for the service.
Imagine the loss when the US government decides to buy a bunch of em PS3s for their supercomputer —
tbh that was a cool airforce moment. Idk about current day, I doubt anyone would buy a shit ton of steam machines just to make a hpc cluster. BUT it would be cool af :]
Its possible, iirc steam deck was sold at a loss of $150 per unit.
