This will just make the car loud, but drivable. Also guess who gets to pay for the new converter? Tax dollars.

Want to have it stall out or immobilize? Block the tailpipe with something, like a potato or slash tires.

Super quick, doesn't require climbing under the car.

Still carries fines and most likely criminal charges in this case. But since we are talking hacking off pieces of ICE vehicles anyway.

La Résistance got started with tire slashing, cutting phone lines and defacing propaganda before working its way up to formidable fighting / mischief force.

Practice, practice.

I suspect coathanger caltrops would work too.

Completely unrelated, but did you know that if all 4 tires are slashed on your car, insurance will typically cover the replacement; but if only 2-3 tires are slashed, you have to cover the replacement cost yourself?

i'd think unless it was already lodged the coat hanger would bend. don't want to try it on anything i own though and i like all my neighbors

I suppose it depends on the coat hangers, but typical ones prove quite ~~ridged~~ rigid. Obviously you want to cut the tips at an angle.

I wonder how many sugar cubes can be thrown into their fuel tank without them noticing.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

FYI, sugar doesn't dissolve in gasoline. The sugar-in-the-tank thing is an old wives' tale.

Luckily water is heavier than gasoline, is available everywhere, and engines can't run on it.

Sand will also generally fuck an engine up, just as an FYI.

[–] despoticruin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

It will if it's inside the engine, as in inside the crankcase where oil goes. Your fuel filter will block any sediment, and there isn't a ton that dissolves in gas. If the only thing you have available is the gas tank you want to add an oxidizer. Bleach in a gas tank will fuck an engine up, as will a few non petroleum fuels. Diesel will stall a gas engine, sand and sugar do nothing, but bleach will internally rust every bit of iron in the fuel rail and inside the cylinders.

like a potato

Potatoes? In this economy?

The more they spend on repairs the less is left for other things. The more budget they have to devote to this fiasco, the more backlash there will be.

Icepick into the sidewall or in between the tread pattern requires less force / strength and is much less obvious than slashing the tyres. Goes down slower though (which can be good or bad depending on the situation)

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Unscrewing the tire valve stem cores takes no strength, and it's much less likely they'll figure it out. You also don't have to walk around with an ice pick to get caught with.

Excellent point. Yes. That will certainly work, takes a bit longer but a good option
