According to CNN exit polling, New Jersey Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill (D) won the support of 68% of Latino voters, while Virginia Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger (D) received 67% support from Latino voters.

The results mark a shift from just one year ago, when the voting bloc helped propel Trump to victory. Republicans say the time is now to course-correct ahead of next year’s midterms.

“Unfortunately Latinos are leaving the Republican Party after giving us a monumental chance in 2024,” said Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) in an video posted on the social platform X after Tuesday’s results. “In New Jersey and Virginia, Hispanics moved back more than 25 points to the Democratic Party.”

One thing has become to clear to me as a Canadian as I see what's happening down there: you're too fucking stupid to have a functional democracy.

It's a problem Canada shares to a lesser extent. Hell, it's a problem everywhere, though it seems to be much worse in the US than elsewhere.

If we want a functional democracy we need to make fundamental changes to how children and teens are educated. Critical thinking, knowledge of how the political system works, and general technological literacy need to be core fucking parts of the curriculum.

There is a reason republicans have been cutting education for 40 years. Trump himself said he loves the poorly educated.

Well that and about 4 other things. Off the top of my head I can list Boomers being vaguely fucked up because they were raised by PTSD riddled veterans who were not taken care of who also had the same exact issue, lead in fucking everything because why not, and also a continuous propaganda campaign going on fifty fucken years, and let's just chuck cold war paranoia leading to the dumbest economic decisions possible. Honestly if I saw a mushroom cloud on the horizon I may actually think it's a good thing, hell maybe we'd get lucky and trigger an ice age to stall global warming.

Lemmy has disabused me of the stereotypical idea that Canadians are really nice due to reading 5000 comments like this.

Everyone likes to say it's education but I was taught all the things you mentioned in the US. Meanwhile the apprentice was wildly popular. It's a culture problem. Money and greed are all the fuck anymore cares about.

Just so I'm understanding your argument correctly: your education wasn't awful, therefore the education system is fine?

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, nuance doesn't exist. Thanks for getting it.

Canadians are polite on the exterior. Of course they're going to have a bit more bite in reality.

It's a mistake to conflate surface level stereotypes with the reality of a culture. It's not like anyone actually believes the British to have an ounce of class once you stop to look at the trashy reality lol
