Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

There is probably an unspoken rule of geopolitics to the effect of "Don't start assassinating foreign dignitaries and heads of state unless you want everyone else to declare open season on you and yours." And it seems like we're getting closer to breaking that rule by the month.

If all our leaders, kings, politicians all vanished at once, I wonder how long it would be before us normal people even noticed.

Except Trump already did it to Iran, and we were likely saved from all out war by fucking COVID.

Everyone forgets about Solomeini

At some point, he'll piss off enough people that the world at large will just look the other way when it happens.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_McElroy

McElroy was shot and killed in broad daylight as he sat with his wife Trena in his pickup truck on Skidmore's main street.[2] He was struck by bullets from at least two different firearms, in front of a crowd of people estimated as numbering between 30 and 46.[1] Despite the many witnesses, nobody came forward to say who shot him. To date, no one has been charged in connection with McElroy's death.

[–] arcterus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago

He met his last wife, Trena McCloud (1957–2012), when she was 12 years old and in eighth grade and he was 35. He raped McCloud repeatedly. McCloud's parents initially opposed the relationship, but McElroy threatened them into agreement by burning down their house and shooting the family dog.

Bruh wtf

We have cameras and ICE now though

[–] match@pawb.social 11 points 1 day ago

All of that footage is going to have been AI generated. I am going to have been there and I will say that it will have been impossible to tell where the bullets are going to have been coming from, just like how I was with Luigi Mangione at band practice all through December 2024.

At some point..? After that kid popped off at him in PA, all the offline people I know were just pretty universally either “shame he lived” or “meh”.

You can only be a hateful and bigoted bully for so long before even the ‘apolitical normie’ can connect the dots between Cheeto’s stochastic terrorism, and someone turning that energy back his way.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, they might have to get in line.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Maybe it can be a Murder on the Orient Express situation

The US has been regularly helping to assasinate Iranian foreigner dignitaries for years now, literally assasinsting many high ranking members of their government/military for years as well.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Common misconception. It's perfectly fine to do it in that direction.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Fatwa/Jihad, bad.

Crusade, good.

Right, right, now I remember, how silly of me.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Doubtful we'll see a powerful head of state call for such an act. More likely, we'll see some lone wolf who gets tied to a nation that immediately disavows them.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The lone wolf will be some domestic ex-maga mad that his VA benefits got cut. It will be interesting to watch the remaining group of clowns link Toothless Joe from rural Idaho to the Iranian regime. Maybe they can say he did it for hire.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Why do that when the "Blame Democrats" button is right there just itching to be pressed by a sweaty greasy finger yet again?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean, if that rule gets tossed out, I can only think of like 2 world leaders I'd be sad to see go. Russia is already actively trying to kill one of those.
