Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The repair costs are part of the estimated $45 million price tag for the upcoming parade.

The cost to repair Washington, D.C., streets after the upcoming military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary could cost as much as $16 million, according to U.S. military officials.

That’s part of an estimated $45 million total cost for the June 14 military parade, which coincides with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The cost estimates have fluctuated as planning continues.

The parade itself will include about 130 vehicles, including 28 M1A1 tanks, 28 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, 28 Stryker armored fighting vehicles and a number of vehicles towing artillery launchers. More than 50 helicopters will also participate in an “extensive flyover” in the nation’s capital.

The event will also bring more than 9,000 soldiers from around the country to Washington, about 7,000 of whom will march in the parade itself. The event will also include at least eight Army bands, and some troops will ride on the nearly three dozen horses and two mules expected to march as part of a historical section of the parade.

I never thought I'd see the day when a draft dodging felon was given a military parade for his birthday.

For the record, fuck the draft. If they ever call it up again, I encourage everyone to metaphorically burn their cards en masse, and present a middle finger to the federal government.

But you don't get to use daddy's money and connections to be allowed to stay when others have to make an actual choice to make a stand, and you sure as FUCK shouldn't get to have a military parade after doing so.

If the 9,000 military personnel had any sense of duty to the oath they all took, then they would refuse to go, or honestly even do the funniest thing on planet earth.

Cheeto said it himself, "he who saves his country commits no crime"

Trump isn't being given anything.

He is ordering the military to do the parade. This isn't even about the military.

Trump is doing this to show his followers that he owns the libs. That he is powerful. Because, in a twisted sense, he is.

He is forcing DC to put on the parade. He's forcing the government to pay for it. He's forcing the residents to deal with the consequences.

This is about power projection.

We are in fascism times.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of people in positions of power, who could all make sure this doesn't happen.

They aren't. Mostly because they want it to happen (also to own the libs) , or because they don't seem to realize we are in fascism times and think "surely there is a good reason for this"

They are giving it to him.

People or governments that go through a totalitarian regime don't realize they're in one until full control is taken away from everyone. Recent example Venezuela and Hugo Chavez. Willingly they (congress) gave Hugo Chavez the government complete and total power. Venezuela used to have a Congress and judiciary branch believe it or not.

I mean... We're in fascism times. If you have the power to do something, you can do many subtle things or one big one before they replace you

This would be a dumb hill to die on... As stupid and wasteful as it is, no one (should) actually die from it

No, somebody should.

Trump is doing this to show his followers that he owns the libs. That he is powerful.

Nobody is ever going to forget that Trump is a ridiculous clown though. This just reinforces that Trump is a narcistic buffoon, and gives DC residents a great opportunity to show up with Baby Trump and Clown Trump pictures.

Military parades are disgusting period, but especially when they're just a prop for a billionaire to gain more enthusiasm from his psychotic cultists, at the expense of the poorest American's tax dollars.
