I had finally transitioned fully away from Google's shit and then you guys start bitching that Proton is evil.
I hate this site
I'm in the same boat, I'm not migrating again unless shit really goes downhill.
Lemmy gives the vibe of "it's all or nothing, be ready to change at a moment's notice if something iffy gets said"
Nothing is perfect, every step in the right direction should be celebrated.
Well done!!
Yes Lemmy is primarily used by people to the left of Bernie Sanders
Wait is we hate ?Proton VPN now
Yeah the CEO praised Trump's business acumen specifically while "remaining neutral". This has led people to believe their policies aren't as waterproof as they claim.
They also doubled down on it with the official proton accounts and left privavy-focused social media in favor of corporate censored social media, specifically.
Trump is good is the official position of the company now since they doubled down.
It really really calls into question if they are lying about their company's values and it is just marketing. People seem to give them extra leeway because they are swiss and the whole "neutrality" BS, but nestle is one of the worst companies in the entire world and they are swiss 😅
Swiss neutrality is a joke.
Neutral in that they will follow whoever's putting money in their pockets.
They helped immensely Nazi Germany during WWII, stalled shipment of military gear to Ukraine, shelter Russian money; and will probably follow whatever fascist gov the US will have in a few years.
For tech, Switzerland would be the last country I'd trust after CryptoAG and co.
Neutrality for them is a marketing term.
Ugh. Any recs on good and free vpns?
Is it ok to use a good product even when the CEO is retarded or nah?
The only truly "good" consumption is to only use local products ethically produced from members of your community. The further you get from that, the more opportunities for the transaction to stray from "not good."
It is very difficult or impossible to be 100% good.
When I consider this, my main concerns are "do I want to give money to this company?" and "is there a morally better alternative that meets my needs, including going without?"
Once you answer those questions for yourself, you should have a better idea if you want to continue doing business with them.
I think it's okay; as far as companies go they're pretty good, and they actually care about privacy which is nice.
Do you have a good link to this info?
"Good" I'm not sure, but this is "a" link here There's also a Medium article with an opposite stance *edit for formatting
