So this is a viewer response poll which, regardless of who sets it up, always show heavy towards the bias of the"polster". The daily mail is to the right of Fox so one would expect that the pool would show favorably for Trump. That it could only muster 53% approval is hilariously bad.
Meh, everyone I know in the real world seems to like him. Lemmy isn't a great snapshot of the real world. Which is why you all were so shocked and shook that Trump won. Sometimes ya just gotta look around.

Which is kind of the problem, right? Of ~244.5M eligible voters, only ~59% or 156.3M actually cast a ballot. And of that, only ~77.3M voted for Trump. The man won the presidency with less than 32% of eligible voters. FPTP elections and the electoral college are leading us to worse and worse candidates.
Hmmm, guess ya all should have made a better impression on those that didn't vote then. Because the majority of those who did vote, voted for Trump.

Both candidates earned around the same number of votes, and both were pitiful. So to that extent, I agree? But the malfeasance wouldn’t have been so rampant and on display with any candidate other than Trump.
Presuming you’re actually an American citizen, we’ve both lost because of this setup. While the current government may be making some strides on things conservative constituents actually care about, I don’t think most of what’s happening right now is helping anyone but those in power. Being glib may make you feel better that you’re on the “winning team”, but it’s the people who voted for him who are statistically more likely to suffer the impacts of this disastrous administration.
Nebraska will be bankrupt, and soon so too will all of the rural and agricultural states in the country’s interior. I’m sorry that they’ve all been conned into believing that this group of despots will help them.
And yet the democratic party was so weak, they couldn't win. Trump has always been like this. So it's not a surprise. But the Dem party has been shitting the bed lately. And if they don't change their attitudes, they'll lose next election too.
I am. But I haven't lost. The democratic party (and Lemmy) has become so out of touch with the average american, that they needed their ass handed to them. Democrats and Lemmy are getting what they deserve for making fun of republicans, ignoring working class concerns, making fun of rural americans and middle america, not taking them seriously.
And it's all gonna happen again if the attitude doesn't change. I'm personally happy to see you all burn down your own shit because you were too egotistical to listen to differing opinions.
I personally have been bullied on Lemmy just because I post news articles about conservatives--many articles from AP News even. I don't call people names, I don't advocate violence, I abhor nazis and fascists. Yet Lemmy has done all of those things to me. I was banned from one instance on my name alone before I even posted anything there.
Lemmy had guaranteed that I will never ever vote democrat ever again. I have seen more hate and spite on here than I have seen any republicans do.
So Lemmy and Democrats are getting what they deserve and I'm sitting back laughing at it. And it's gonna happen again in 4 years unless ya'll change your attitudes.
A swing of 1.8% is hardly a massive loss, be real. The entire Trump was predicated in promises and lies to swing that many voters, and now they all immediately regret it. The polls from Tuesday show every single Democrat (including Harris) would have won in November right now, which shows the obvious regret right there.
But they don't regret it. That's why Lemmy is upset. They know the voters who voted him in don't regret it. If they regretted it, then Lemmy would be cheering and clapping.

I could keep going on and on. Bipartisan bills introduced to take tarrifs power back from the executive, removing more power from the presidency and reigning in the DOJ, personnel heading for the door, and even GOP Congress members breaking from the party line vote more and more.
If you're thinking Trump is doing some intelligent work here, not only is your trust misplaced, your cognitive abilities are impaired. These fools just used ChatGPT to declare a global trade war with no benefit whatsoever, and that's who like for the job?

All I'll say is that disinformation and propaganda will not change reality.
No matter how many times you say things are getting cheaper, they will become more expensive. No matter how many times you say you're rich, you'll be poor. No matter how many times you say tariffs work, they won't. No matter how many times you say vaccines don't work, your community will continue to die. I can keep going.
People can lie to themselves and say their quality-of-life is improving but health, life expectancy, and purchasing power will still continue to get worse - no matter. If 53% of daily mail users accept that, then fine. If 49.8% of the voting bloc accept that, then fine. But life will get worse.
Then I guess Democrats better work on getting better candidates and changing their strategy so they can win and stop all this horrible stuff happening, right? Are the Democrats working on that right now?
I would hope so. I am not a Dem, so I wouldn't know.
It seems to me that they have learned nothing from their failures, however. Some Dems are trying to enact change but do not understand the level of investment and sacrifice needed to turn this thing around. They just aren't winners.
That being said, the world has more nuance than "dems better strategy = win". There are active disinformation campaigns from foreign nations and internal bad-actors. There is also active voter suppression and the richest people on the planet flooding the government with lobbying money. To think this is a straightforward calculation, is to be incredibly naive.
Republicans are also actively committing said "horrible stuff" (which includes breaking the law) and are not being sent to prison. The general population is also not using their 2A very well either - if they were, a lot of Republican seats would be vacant.
But as I said prior, lying to yourself about your current reality will not help the situation - nor make your life better. The country is objectively worse now than it has been in 100 years. You can cope and rationalize all you want, but your life will get worse and you will die earlier. You are not going to beat reality.

Yes, and it can get quite despicable - no matter political leanings. But American Conservative propaganda is on a completely different level. They actively change the definitions of words and have never once argued in good-faith. It is a societal poison that is historical in scale - it is not just "another" disinformation campaign.
Like I said, your words will not change reality. If you had investments, they have been completely wiped. The purchasing power of your dollar has decreased. The diplomatic power of your passport has decreased. Your drinking water is on track to become carcinogenic (if it's not already). Your health access to health-services will be worse (than it already is). Your national parks are going to be flogged and libraries torn apart. There is movement to ban books and destroy sources of knowledge.
There is not a single demographic in the country (other than the extremely corrupt involved with Trump) that benefit from the incoming consequences. Like I said, the country has only had this bad an outlook during the Great Depression.
If you want to cope, whatever. Enjoy living to 45 and having your kids work in Florida sweatshops.

If all investments were truly wiped, how come we don't see wealthy people out on the streets crying that everything has been wiped out? Because they are doing the same thing. The fact that you use terms like "bounce back" means you don't understand the moment we are living in. The fact that you are only taking your situation into account instead of the average-person's means you are lacking empathy. But every economist in the world seems to agree, we are entering uncharted territory here, and no amount of copium is going to change the fact that these tariffs are a very very very bad idea.
Yes, in a certain number of years the market will rebound (likely with a democrat in office, as history shows) and people who can weather the storm and still invest will come out ahead. The problem is, that will be a decreasing number of people. This is a money grab from the ultra-wealthy, taking from the middle class.
Turn off Fox News, a recession/depression is a bad thing.
So I wanna get this straight, because I'm saving this post: So do you think the market will stay down until a democrat is voted president? You don't think it's going to rebound within the next month, next year or four years?
If I could time the market, I wouldn’t be here discussing it with you, I’d be on a boat somewhere. If the market does rebound in the next short time period, it’ll be because these tariffs are rescinded, and we get back to sensible economic policy. In which case, it would look like market manipulation to me.
But yes, if we continue on this reckless isolationist path, I would expect the market to be down until some equally large changes are made in the other direction. And yes, that would likely be years.
I’m also not making the statement that it’ll be a Democrat in office when these damages are undone. History makes that statement for me.

I don't think things will be bad at all. Many economists have said this is pain in the short term, but in the long term, things will be stronger than before.
I'm going to buy as much stock as I can tomorrow when the market opens. Most wealthy people I know will be doing the same.
Based upon information current and trajectory, I do expect it to get much worse, and for it to be several years to recover. And I’d base “recovery” on more than just the S&P; unemployment, inflation, wealth disparity, and other markers of a healthy economy.
But I also foresee this incredibly unstable administration from possibly making moves to swing the markets in the other direction. If it does “recover” quickly, it’s because they just picked out collective pockets. Insider trading on a global scale.
Remember, these are moves made by someone who bankrupted his own casinos. Sometimes, if it walks like a duck…
And I don't agree with this. So I guess we'll find out. I actually think it's going to be a quick turnaround.

The wild swings are probably allowing insider trading to rob the American public of their savings. Hardly a way to run an economy.
I’m a conservative investor. I put away what I can afford into my retirement fund, and in 20 years hopefully they’ll be enough there.
If you want to swing big, go play with crypto or forex or sports betting. Turning the world’s largest economy into an Atlantic City casino or the shittiest pyramid scheme shouldn’t be for wild speculation.
What do I think? I think you’re gonna be up 100% in the short term, losing it all in the long term. And we’ll all be poorer until such time as a progressive policymaker (god willing) takes the big seat again.

Well I'm already retired, so I'm set there. And I never buy more than I can afford to lose, so even if it all went south, I'd be good.
But I also don't hold on to stuff long. I take my profit quick. I buy when it's low, as soon as it's high enough for me to make decent profit after fees, I sell. I don't just hold and hold for things like this. Obviously I have long term investments, and those I don't bother with.
This is just my vegas money, so it's been mostly fun to watch.

A lot of people like to play pretend and be arm-chair experts, but in have zero understanding of what's happening around them. This is what's called being a cosplayer, or a larper.
I am simply listening to what the (proven) experts have to say, and their reasoning. They show analysis and historical data and say we are heading for a deep recession - going depression. Yet you, "Donald Musk", are saying they are wrong because of how you feel. Like I said it's quite unfortunate.
Also today is Sunday, there is no market data - but as you've seen the market has undergone historic losses these past few days. And if you've been listening to anyone with a pulse, people have lost the opportunity to retire because of this. But you, "Donald Musk", say it is not happening - so I must be "depressed and cringy".

Near me it is 24.99 retail and 18.99 sale - up around 12 from Trump's inauguration. Do you think most Americans can afford this? Do you think Trump has made this situation better or worse?
