I'm nb and my chosen name is a short form of my middle name. I wonder how he'd feel about that.
You're more "correct" than he is, since "Ted" isn't anywhere in his name!

"Ted" is short for "Theodore," not "Edward."

Oh, okay, I've never known any Edwards who use "Ted." One of those weird things like William -> Bill or Richard -> Dick, I guess.
