I can think of a pretty clear causal chain that leads from union membership to better wages for the most vulnerable groups and thus to a more balanced wage distribution. You don't need a degree in economics to understand the connection.

I agree and unions are great but this graph only shows a correlation anyways. The argument would be much better if a real causation is shown or even hinted at with supporting facts.
