I recently tried posting a link to an anti-annexation protest event I created, however EhNow (similar to twitter), the site I used to create the event, apparently won't let you view it without being a registered user, which I did not realize. Seems I inadvertently did the most offensive and suspicious thing anyone has ever done, ever, by posting such a link. I was wrong to assume people knew what EhNow is, so here's a video about it.

You posted a link that required a login, and people said "I'm not signing up for a social media account just to read a single article." Your response was to insult everyone and tell them that they signed up for lemmy so they should have no problem with EhNow.

Quit acting so butthurt and grow up. You're doing a great job of making me avoid EhNow.

Yeah, 1000% I was put off by their behaviour, more than anything else in the thread. The URL not matching was absolutely questionable, and if OP had said "whoops, typo" or even just "huh, weird" I might've accepted it, but instead they acted like they got caught splicing a speedrun world record, high and mighty and like it was offensive that people wouldn't just click any link a stranger sent them. They were rude in nearly every comment on the whole post.

The whole thing put me off, and that's when I downvoted the whole thing as a potential phishing scam and silently left the thread.

First of all, flaunting your ignorance to the point of repeatedly getting the dude's name wrong when his name is IN THE TITLE OF THE POST is very much not the flex you think it is.

But hey, I'm feeling generous, so since in your infinite hours of being chronically online, you don't have a minute to search the guy on a search engine, I'll help you out.

He's the guy who made the Unplug America website, a list of Canadian alternatives to American tech, which is where I learned about the existence of Lemmy, Ehnow, and others.

Other than that, I don't really know. He's got a lot more internet clout than I do, which is why I thought posting his video might give the links I was trying to post more credibility. Haven't heard of EhNow? Ok, here's a video about it. I'm not chronically online to the point of being too cynical to talk like a human being, so I don't know much more about him. You're going to have to do at least a little bit of work yourself if you want to know more. Sorry if that's too hard.

The most laughable part of that last comment is how you just assume that I'm "Tom" which only adds to the cringe and secondhand embarrassment I feel for you.
