The forced labour part is relatively new-ish. I think the average American has no idea about the slave labour involved in their daily lives.

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Yeah, they sorta gloss over that part in school when we learn about this stuff.
