I generally agree, but those terms you prefer are specific about the type of media. I think "creator" and "content" are still the most neutral and catch-all terms, but they have been tarnished by commercialized platforms.
I am lifting this quote from another Lemmy user: "CEO that calls music ~“content without production costs"
They are referring to the Spotify CEO, and the discussion is about AI making music.
The relevance here is exactly what I am trying to say: the term "content" is used by the corporations (youtube, Sportify, TikTok) as a catch all term for just about anything to get clicks and revenue. People shouldn't be reduced to this. We have authors. The books have "content" hence the name Table of Contents. But we dont call an Author a content creator.
Youtube didn't give a shit what was on the screen as long as it was "content". Sell more ads.
Its a derogatory term I guess is what I am saying.
I get your point, but what would be an alternative term for content or creators in general? One that encompasses all types of media. Maybe "artists" and "art", but that doesn't always fit, I guess
There is no need to encompass all of it. That's the point.
Doesnt the words just stand out as wrong? Creators. Well that means nothing. We all create things.
