I have a phone that has no sim card and I only use it for podcasts (using wifi). I found it strange that different places I took it changed how long the battery lasted. I was going on the idea that it was about the wifi. But as I traveled to different places, and different countries, I saw a radical change in the battery life. I could go over a week in small country and then in the US it would drain in two days.

I finally turned the airplane mode on and it returned to the level of outside US small country in terms of battery life.

What the hell is that device doing when in the US? Its terrifying actually.

I liked the other attachment that fits around mason jar lids. Creates a tight seal, the jar does not crush the contents, and you no longer need plastic bags. Also, the glass jar can go straight into the fridge.

I would really like to see both: Artists creating their vision, drawing and sketching out ideas. Then using their own work, bring that to life with generative AI. Train on their drawings and work alone. Use it to help with rigging and modeling. Use it to take mashes and apply them in the holodeck as it is generating the world you are exploring.

It is not just one or the other. It just become a little more complicated.

I don't know. I think you used a computer. That is going to put people out of work. As a former graphic artist, this really shits on my field. That no longer exists, because computer.

I kind of am joking around, but I really used to do this stuff and we debated what was acceptable using "clip art" books vs hand drawings. That was a physical thing back in the day, and people worried about mass produced clip art ruining everything.

I don't care about AI in video games, seems silly to give a shit.

I DO care if they are using AI to analyse or harvest my data. Otherwise.... its a freaking video game. Whatever. Is it a good game?

And I say this because I know people who really have interesting ideas, but they cant afford artists, musicians, and some even need a little help creating meshs and rigging. I would hope they are honest about it, but if they use AI as a tool to bring their vision together that seems fine. If they do translations it definitely would be worth saying "AI generated" as it never is as good as a native speaker. But it is something that is better than nothing.

And I will add: If you are concerned about the "executive class" and workers, you shouldnt be buying from the big studios anyways.

Edit: I guess the down otes indicate that you don't give a shit about artists, you just have a knee jerk reaction to technology. Probably because you do not even understand it.

It never seems to use much memory even with a ton of tabs open. But if it can be even less, all the better.

I am only on Linux so I don't know what windows is like.

Rogue, Hack, Nethack. Basically nethack, but it built on those before it. Occaisonally Larn. Amiga Larn.

Fedora, specifically KDE version. It will feel like the steamdeck desktop (because it is) will get quick updates and is painless to manage.

The first bug I have seen in two years is the screen lock bug just recently. But I imagine it will get sorted soon and isn't a showstopper.

Thanks for the article. That is interesting. It also is confusing that they wrote "Lidar is not the only thing that can damage camera sensors – lasers are just as harmful." Uh...Lidar is Laser.

But it is in so many fields, even devices with cameras. Apple has been adding Lidar to their phones/tablets for 5 years now. Why is this an issue now? Like I said, there is a TON of Lidar in use everyday.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Can it really cause damage? Lidar is flown constantly, and all of googles street view had been ran with lidar. That's millions of miles of data collection and I haven't heard of any negative effects. I get that it is a laser, but is duration and distance must be big factors.

Not saying you are wrong, just looking to quanitfy the risks.

Well about that. The FCC and the EU came to an agreement about use of Galileo gps.

This means the opposite can be true, and they can require a push to revoke Galileo. Or the EU could revoke the gps as well. The license can effectively stop most people from having gps even Galileo. Yes you could avoid the update, try and use the signals anyways, but for the majority of people, a simple update and its gone.

At least in the states anyways.
