How many times can they make the same damned trailer for the same damned movie?
Screenwriting is dead. Advertising for movies is face down six feet under.
I think the only ones watching all of these trailer variants are YouTube creators like Emergency Awesome creating breakdowns for the “new and latest trailer“ so they can sniff out the one or two Easter eggs that might be in it. I don’t think anyone else is actually watching these.
By the time all of these trailers are out, you could probably cut them all together into the full film.
If I see another fucking video about another Spider-Man brand new day trailer from that channel, I’m gonna go crazy. I thought I had a crush on Tom Holland, but seriously, dude… he married Zendaya; it’s time to move on.
Idk what even classifies as Easter Eggs anymore. These movies aren't pitched to anyone who reads comic books, any more than the Bond movies are pitched to people who read the original Ian Flemming material.
2 hr 45 min. Another absolute monster of a film so everyone can take turns quipping and punching each other in the face, before resetting to the status quo. But hey, if you're 14, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Me too. Don’t let the YouTube fodder churn ruin that. These movies aren’t intended to be comic book accurate. I mean, really, with how many different timelines and retcons are in the comic books, they aren’t exactly the Bible now are they (not that the Bible didn’t go through countless revisions itself, am I right?)? These movies are meant to be entertaining, and while they definitely strayed from that path years ago, at least Marvel is trying to get back to that. Let’s see how they do without letting all the marketing getting in the way. At least we’re not dumb enough to fall for all that crap again. (Lololol????)
And just think: if/when they fail, we can come back here and bitch about it for a months and years. Think of how high we’ll get on our own farts saying “look how right we were! We told you so! We were right all along!” And all of that bullshit. Our own, well-tended bullshit.

Edit: i’m 47. I realized that I was wasting my life over petty details when the show Star Trek Picard came out. Do I really need to have a fucking aneurysm over retcon’s and franchise inaccuracies? Or can I learn to just enjoy something or ignore it?
Star Trek: lower decks was the great equalizer there, and I just learned to move on. At least Marvel is trying. Unlike Paramount, at least Marvel isn’t shitting all over something you grew up loving just for the sake of watch statistics and clicks.

It's more that I get the ads blasted into every social media and hobbyist feed, such that I can hardly avoid them. Unsurprising, given that half the production cost for these films is the marketing budget.
As often as not, I get them in between shit I actually care about - latest season of Vox Machina dropping, new chapter of a webcomic I follow releasing, you just finished watching Obsession or Vampire Lestat or Is God Is, so maybe you'd like this next, etc. The Algorithm just sees "This idiot likes movies and comic books, point the firehose of Marvel Slop their way".
I would hope not. Some of the comic runs were atrocious. They can definitely do better. But I swear they haven't written an original story arc since the original Iron Man movie.
Occasionally you get something proper out of left field. The Sam Rami "Doctor Strange" was a lot of fun. Deadpool manages to dredge a few good jokes out of the Joss Whedon well. Civil War at least flirted with some kind of conflict that wasn't World Ending Existentialism. Black Panther had some proper sympathetic villainy.
But by and large it's just... "Don't let the bad guy press the Bad Button! Oh no, they pressed it!! But we have a Good Button! We pressed it just in time, we win! Everything is where it started. Again."
I go to great lengths to filter out all advertising from my general “experience”. I’ve been very successful for the last 10 to 15 years, so I can’t really comment on that.
Well, I think that’s a more healthy outlook than most fans tend to have, but I still think you take it all a little too seriously. Remember, this is and always has been intended as entertainment, not as epistemology or theology.
And Marvel is one of the few companies that genuinely gives a shit whether people actually enjoy the content they produce. Just look at 60+ year-old franchises like Doctor Who and Star Trek that got fucked by companies that really don’t give a shit for anything other than profit.
It's more just an issue of shit-writing versus good-writing.
I mean... eh? They definitely invest a ton of money in marketing their products. And that means a continuous blizzard of artificial hype, from highway billboards to internet blowhards. But this is still a Disney company. I'll throw you back to the old Eisner-ism. "We're not here to make art, we're here to make money". The Marvel Formula is downstream of the broader Disney Formula for making entertainment.
It's an assembly line that churns out The Product year in and year out.
DW & ST were already very modular. I might argue the more story-arc driven updates to these franchises made them worse (even if the big arcs were the shows at their best).
But the Marvel serialized format was always a story-arc format. And these arcs were chained together to tell a still longer story. When Marvel's at its best, the story evolves over time. X-Men did this exceptionally well. They would kill people who stayed dead (mostly). They'd introduce elements in the background, like the Sentinels or the Legacy Virus, which informed the era of writing and the broad set-pieces of the franchise. They weren't afraid to do a bunch of spin-offs that were incredibly low stakes, rather than making every storyline existential to the entire planet/universe/reality itself.
All of that went away with the movie franchises. Everything had to be bigger than the last thing, which meant nothing could ever actually resolve in a meaningful way until the last scene of the capstone episode. And, even then, you had to do some kind of soft reset so that there's always a toy in the box that you recognize.
I don't really begrudge a media company for profit-hunting. I do begrudge media companies who put their stories on repeat mode, because they're too afraid to try anything that might not look identical to the last thing that made money.
Ok, I upvoted you because I agree with what you said, but I’m trying to enjoy my day, so I’m not gonna get dragged into this argument. That’s been going on for decades.
Seriously. I’ve got a bottle of bourbon and a big bag of weed and I just bought cyberpunk 2077 ultimate on Steam summer sale, so I got shit to do. And that shit does not include wallowing in my own misery over what the fuck the corporations did with Star Trek and Doctor Who. I’m gonna wait it out in my bomb shelter and see what the state of things is in five years. And I recommend you do the same.
Just be glad that Marvel dumps it central mega star when they come down with a case of the grab ass, and has the wherewithal to restart its franchise, rather than just steaming forward regardless.

I will leave you with a recommendation. Go check out Orville, if you haven't already. Skip the first... fivish episodes, because they're pretty bad. But over the course of three seasons, it's some of the best Star Trek that's been produced in the last decade.
What kills me is that Jonathan Majors was a legit good actor. Gina Carano, too. If they could have just kept their shit together and their opinions to themselves for six more months, they wouldn't be doing D-List slop films for The Daily Wire. They'd probably be getting greenlit for some Skydance Films mega-movie under the Ellisons.

Honestly, if you're being inundated with ads to the point it's souring you on the product, that's a you issue.
I use Revanced, Ublock, and Ecosia and I haven't seen an ad for anything more than a shitty mobile game in years.
Ecosia has a built-in ad blocker that works pretty well.
