Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

In a set of fascistic speeches on Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House power broker Stephen Miller, and other top Trump administration officials labelled the political left as a “terrorist” threat and vowed to use all of the tools at their disposal to systematically destroy left-wing groups. Representatives from 67 countries gathered in the U.S. on Thursday for a meeting…

What confuses me about this administration is that they seem to be aiming to make any political belief or action that does not support them worthy of a lengthy prison sentence.

... but [REDACTED] is also a lengthy prison sentence. So they've removed the incentive to not [REDACTED].

In other words... why design a system where your opponents have nothing to lose? They will be pushed towards acting like they have nothing to lose.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because they want an excuse to implement martial law that their base will accept. An "enemy within" that turns violent is exactly the pretense they're stoking for this, even if it's obvious they invented everything that caused it.

I see this sentiment a little more frequently than I see the following that I'll paraphrase:

"They're doing this to egg on a response [so we should not give them what they want by pushing back]" is an accidental or intentional PsyOp campaign.

If your opponent threatens to fight you if you fight back, you would choose to surrender before the fight begins?

It's an incredibly effective PsyOp when arguably the largest downside of anti-MAGA people is their rampant apathy, and that sentiment is like gasoline to a fire. "Oh, the enlightened response is to stay home like I did in 2024? Sick."

Nah, but we should wait until we know a democratic method (voting) won't work to remove the fascists. Once we cross that line, then we can resort to the actual fighting back.

Because the best case scenario here is that they want us to actually fight back so they can impose martial law, but we don't, then we win by voting them out without any widespread violence and they never got to play their martial law card.

If it doesn't work, and we realize they've corrupted the electoral process and stolen an election, then we grab our pitchforks (guns) and properly do what a bunch of inbred redneck traitors failed to do on Jan 6, because they're stupid and of course they didn't have any semblence of an actual plan.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"We should wait until it is too late. That will be the perfect time to act. Just a little longer..."

Okay, if you say so. Again, accidental or intentional PsyOp.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

people are just scared. rightfully so.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I totally get that. It's certainly why I'm not doing more.

But "let's not oppose them because they want opposition" is playing more into their hands than opposing them is. I get it's a Lose-lose but let's not go for the Lose because we don't want to lose.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

yea im not arguing with that part. Im just at the point where I can't do what I want, which is to prosecute and properly punish all these fuckers according to the laws of the country they stole.

You won't.

Watch.

Not confusing at all, they have built an enormous police, secret police full of chuds. They want things to escalate.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The only constant goal has been to get us to turn on each other. It's been constant for at least 10 years. I figure "destroy America from within" was Putin's directive.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I wish we could just blame this on Putin but the truth is our own ruling class have been working towards this for the last 70 years.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Porque no los dos?

The ruling class is generally international. Russia's oligarchs have more in common with US oligarchs than the US working class has with either of them.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't disagree but the concerted effort was specifically undertaken by the U.S. ruling class to undo the progress made by The New Deal and FDR. The Soviet Union of 70 years ago is drastically different than the Russia of today. Of course oligarchs are going to oligarch and at the end of the day there's no war but the class war but wealthy Americans specifically set out to fund think tanks to shift American politics to the right.

I feel like it's important they own this, blaming foreign interference gives the domestic ruling class a pass they shouldn't get.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just really dislike the idea of blaming the peanut butter for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

The peanut butter was there first though and organized and actively worked to make the bread softer and more ignorant about salami and pepperjack.

Jellys arrival mighti've been the death knell but if they're ever put against a wall, the peanut butter should be first in line.

We're basically in agreement though and I'm just splitting hairs, ultimately there's no war but the class war.

Temporary allies

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's exactly what they want. If they have nothing to lose, they fight back, then the right can point at that and use it as confirmation of their originally bullshit claims. Fascism 101.

Oh, sorry, don't mistake my explanation for complacency. I'm all for fighting these fascist pieces of shit by any means necessary. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't, might as well do.

Label me a terrorist? I'll show you one.
