if you can afford a child with minimal impact to your lifestyle, you are quite wealthy.

childcare is like 2-3K a month, for that to not substantailly impact you, i would assume your take home is northwards of 10K+ a month, which means you're making close to 200K+. which is often the income bracket at which having children is not a life-style altering choice.

for most folks, having a kid is so expensive it completely alters their lifestyle because it removes like 30-50% of their income.

implying children aren't a financial burden implies you're wealthy.

the original post says 'cost' and the other person goes 'cost isn't a reason for me'.

so i go 'ok how much do you make that cost isn't a reason for you?' because the legit reason for the vast majority of folks, is the cost. they can't afford kids, so they don't have them.

No, the other person said cost is not the highest on the list.

You're the one crusading for it to be "not a reason".

Nah, that's crazy, I said cost would be towards the bottom of my list. Because there are a lot more, better reasons.

And then I said "number 1 would probably be something like “I would never forgive myself for bringing another life into this shitty world unsolicited”."

So you can afford 2-3K a month or not?

"Having to clean the fork would be pretty far down the list of reasons why I don't want to stab myself with a fork"

"Oh, you enjoy doing the dishes?"

Naw.

But even if I did, it wouldn't move the needle much, because cost would be toward the bottom of my list of reasons not to have kids.
