Pretty sure that teenage Freddy did fuck Mercury at some point, we've all been 14 after all

I don't know about their monarchy, and I don't care. Our 19th century grandparents were too mild on the aristocrats, if you ask me. Abdicate or get the French treatment.

You should get cash for reasons that are obvious to anyone with two brain cells: if there is a blackout or cyber attack or failure of the internet, you can still pay by cash. The fact that people don't use cash now is irrelevant. Nobody sits at candlelight listening to a battery powered radio right now either.

As a fellow pervert, I welcome my swedish siblings.

I mean, he was Freddie fucking Mercury after all. That is like saying Keith Richards has slept with a few groupies and took some drugs

Relative power? A phone and an app that shows you the received signal strength. Wifianalyzer on F-droid for example.

For me, setting it from max power to 6% (lowest value) took it from -30dBm on my couch to -50 dBm, so 20 dB difference, which is ca. 1/100. So it roughly checks out.

Keep in mind that radio waves are magic, and the higher in frequency you go, the darker the magic gets.

Absolute power is hard, especially if you are interested in average power for, like, health concerns. WiFi works in short bursts over a pretty large part of the spectrum, and you'd need calibrated equipment as well. I knew a guy who did radio wave strength mapping for like government, telcos and concerned residents, and he had a car full of tech. Simple field probes can be reasonably priced, but you need to know how to operate and interpret them.

I've sold most of my international/US-biased stocks, only keep a few, plus some local company that I know is doing pretty OK.

I replaced it with mostly high-security stuff like the bank savings account or European central bank rate coupled stuff. So I guess I am losing the potential interest?

I am still not sure when to "buy the drop". I bet that (sadly), the US administration will do more bullshit before it gets better.

I just looked at my router, it supports max transmit power settings somewhere deep in the menu, I just leave it at maximum/automatic.

I know from debugging my wifi drivers on my laptop that at least that one does adjust its power, I am guessing it works with most other modern devices as well.

I live in a 10-ish story apartment building and according to my router, channel utilisation is <20% for both 2.4 and 5 GHz. So, I guess it just works.

I wonder who downvoted that. I mean, who would disagree with people trying to be considerate?

Okay, let's turn this shipost into a brainstorming session: what would be socially accepted "slutty outfits" for men, both straight and gay?

I feel like our fashion choices are limited to tank tops, shorts and if you feel fancy, half open shirts.

The famous BO regulatory domain? ;)

I'm an electrical engineer and into ham radio. WiFi is the last of my concerns, health-wise.

To even begin to worry about that I should first start eating healthier, work out more than once a week, and so something about all the microplastic in my brain, I guess. I'm not a medical processional, but it's pretty far down the list. And regarding power consumption.. This thing uses like 10 W, of which probably <1 is influenced by the radio power.

Low taxes, I assume

How do you test your antenna idea? Well, our approach was to get a portable network analyzer that can show received dBm, put a commercial antenna on it, and strap the whole thing to a PVC pipe (for insulation and to get repeatable height). Then, zip-tie a cough drop to the PTT of a walkie talkie set to low power, so that it transmits continuously.

Now you can walk around your contraption with your Drain Pipe of RF measuring, and get a (rough qualitative) idea of how the pattern looks like. Much to my surprise, it actually worked.

Picture from a hike back in January. I need to go outside more often ;)

My first magnetic loop for 2m :)

Really simple construction: bent ca. 2mm brass pipe soldered directly to the outside of an SMA plug, inside of the plug soldered to the red wire as "input coil". Tunable by squeezing the ends more or less close together.

SWR of <1.2 at resonance, not bad. Impedance is at roughly 44+j2 Ohm, also not bad for totally eyeballing it without any prior calculations.

I can reach the nearest 2m relais just fine at 2W, although to be fair I can do the same with a short whip antenna. More testing to follow. Holy shit, this actually works!

It will widen your horizon, they said. And here I was, foolishly thinking I could get away with half-assing statistics during my degree.

Turns out the status quo of Linux memory management somehow works pretty damn okay, nobody seems to really know why, and nobody cares.
