If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"
Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.
Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.
We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

Imagine going through all the trouble of pulling this stunt off, just to find out that the only thing it really did for society is to give it a new meme template.

It's possible flying a banner on a big building won't have any impact no matter what message you put on it. Do you really think people would change their view on any issue because of a slogan on a flag?
I think people are smarter than you, yes.
The vapidness of the original message is what makes the memes work.

For anybody also having a hard time reading that partially folded flag, or finding the text within the 1000 words article, it's this:

Agreed with the other comment, that's the most useless sign ever.
Even more useless was celebrating their engagement that way. My wife and I just posted about it on Facebook and went out for burgers or something.
