We used to not trade with them, but the first step would have been to not sign NAFTA, which had destroyed our economy. But then thanks to Trump we were finally out of it and Trudeau went and signed CUSMA. Now Carney has a chance to get us out of CUSMA while making it look like Trump is giving us a free off ramp again and he's not doing that.
Huh you think NAFTA was when we started trading. Come on you can't be that dense. They are right there we have alwaysbtrwded with them.

We have traded with the Americans for as long as the USA has existed.

Sure we had some trade but for the most part the US has always been a hostile partner and the bulk of our trade was with Britain because they're actually our ally.
If by ally you mean we sent everything there because we where a colony then sure.
“Free trade” with the US made us their colony.
In quotes because it was only free one way.
Political opinions aside, you seem like a real chore of a person to be around.
