The Finnish company Jolla is back with the Linux-powered Jolla Phone. Itโ€™s being positioned as an antidote to the US-dominated smartphone status quo of Android and iOS.

โ‚ฌ700 for a phone??? Am I a joke to you?

[โ€“] greyscale@lemmy.sdf.org 40 points 4 days ago (2 children)

you say that like apple hasn't trained everyone to get used to a 1200 euro bi-annual upgrade cycle

The most I've payed for a phone has been 350 โ‚ฌ. Alternatives to the current duopoly must exist and I am glad they are getting more recognition, but this would still be double of what I am willing to pay; like, I earn 1,151 โ‚ฌ a month, so 700 is the better part of my salary.

Like fuck apple

There's an argument to be made that this is a reasonable price, and that much cheaper phones should be treated with high suspicion.

I mean, if they don't rob your data, they have to get money somewhere and they are also making you pay for the OS i guess

They are manufacturing a limited run. It's normal for prices to be higher.

[โ€“] B0rax@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago

They also have a 350โ‚ฌ version. The Jolla C2

I'm sure you can pay more for it if you want to.
