OI POLLOI - Terra-Ist from the Fuaim Catha album

They've poisoned and clear-felled and strip-mined this earth
Made a cess pit of the paradise that was ours by birth
They've raped and they've burned and they've plundered our world
Our banner of resistance will now be unfurled
We're nailing our colours right up to the mast
The sands of time are running out fast
To stop the nutters destroying our home
Kidnapped from our children from whom it's on loan
Enough is enough is enough of their greed
Mass eco-defence is what the earth needs
Terra-ist action all over the land
To stop the lunacy the rich have got planned
E.L.F. strike in the dead of night
See the bulldozers are burning bright
Construction area totally trashed
Earth-rape machinery utterly smashed
Some might say that we're too "extreme"
But all we want is air and water that's clean
And a green earth not a desert is what we need
Don't let them sacrifice it on their altar of greed
Rise up and conquer your fear
They can be stopped like Jose-Maria
Our world a toxic slag-heap they will make
So take whatever action you feel it's right to take
It's up to you it's up to me to make a stand
Our generation holds it's future in it's hands
Time to fight back let them do their worst
Green anarchy in action - put the earth first!

Brian d'Souza, also known as DJ Auntie Flo, has been experimenting with making music from plants and fungi for the past five years. He uses the plant biodata to trigger notes on his specially built modular synthesizer in a process called biosonification, with the intention of bridging the gap between the natural world and electronic music. He currently runs the A State Of Flo label and substack, focusing on the biological basis for music, new ecosystems and the creation of acoustic ecologies. As Auntie Flo, he recently released his fourth album 'In My Dreams (I'm A Bird And I'm Free)' with one of the singles of 2024 'Green City' - the follow up to the acclaimed 'Radio Highlife' released with Gilles Peterson's Brownswood. His nature based music has been featured on the BBC, 6Music, V&A, Discovery Channel, Tate, Glastonbury, National Trust and more.

'Plants Can Dance (and Mushrooms Sing)', Brian's new concept, debuts on MAJ, combining the realtime sounds of the plants in the MAJ studio with a choice selection of rare ambient, new age, electroacoustic and polyrhythmical vinyl. Records featured include music by Mort Garson, Midori Takada, Nuno Cannavaro, Suzanne Ciani, Flore Libertine and more.

Here's something silly - I've seen conspiracy theorists sling the term "Socialist Vampire" around as an insult frequently enough (saying socialists are secretly vampires, sometimes literally, basically a continuation of the usual rightwing blood libel bullshit).

This musician appears to have worked backwards and asked what if there were actual vampires and those vampires were genuine socialists and it's pretty funny.

It's a three part series of short songs. They're on other sites too but the tiktok version seems to have the best video (which kinda makes it) and lyrics onscreen.

The ongoing brutality committed against Indigenous peoples — land grabs, genocide, continuing disregard for self-determination and sovereignty — bolster a culture of over-consumption and play an undeniable role in the climate crisis. Given that anger is a hallmark of heavy metal, it isn’t surprising that an Indigenous audience would find it appealing.

Although often associated with Satan, swords, and sorcery (and illegible logos), metal has always reflected on the environment and the state of the world. Indigenous bands have been part of the scene almost from its start more than five decades ago, but the past few years have seen a growing number of Native musicians writing about a wide range of subjects, from rurality to discrimination to the universal experience of having a good time despite all of that.

LYRICS:

I ain’t been but one little place and lived here all my life

I ain’t known but one woman and now she is my wife

Never been further than up the road to the town and back again

Never known but a handful of folks and them I call my friends

.

Now I’m going to leave here

Now I’m going away

Keep my fiddle tuned for me

I’ll need it some sweet day

.

Well the preacher said to my only son I’ll sign you up for war

You’ll fight for your life far from your home and never come back no more

Well my only son come home one day and we buried him up the hill

Next to his auntie and old grandma and dear old uncle bill

.

Now I’m going to leave here

Now I’m going away

Keep my fiddle tuned for me

I’ll need it some sweet day

.

Now I’m gonna go myself and see what’s it’s all about

Why’d they take a poor man’s son he was all I got

Who’s pockets are filled with gold and they don’t have to fight

Or leave home and say goodbye to their kids and worry on them all night

.

Now I’m going to leave here

Now I’m going away

Keep my fiddle tuned for me

I’ll need it some sweet day

.

I set up camp one day on the street where the rich man lived

He won’t come out and talk to me he don’t have the time to give

But’ll call the cops and say roustabout’s a-living on our place

So take him away and all his kind I don’t wanna see his face

.

Now I’m going to leave here

Now I’m going away

Keep my fiddle tuned for me

I’ll need it some sweet day

.

I wished I’d stayed to home and kept my son there too

You can give to the rich man all day long but he’ll never give back to you

So they can call me roustabout and do it all they please

Never will I stop for them or get down on my knees

.

Now I’m going to leave here

Now I’m going away

Keep my fiddle tuned for me

I’ll need it some sweet day

Again giving some love to this emerging genre botanica. This record is such a cozy, hopeful vibe.

"Warm organic arrangements shatter icy electronic chatter to form clear sonic artworks."

My debut into solarpunky vocaloid music. Music produced by me in garageband/piapro/synthv, art made in clip studio, video rendered with a neato little tool called vizzy.

Quick caveat: I know it says Kasane Teto "AI" as one of the artists. This is not generative AI. Vocaloid is way, way older than any of them there GPTs, and is a wholly different kind of computer-assisted music. It's the difference between digital artists spending hours on digital art (Good!) and prompt peddlers generating "AI Art" (the devil). While Kasane Teto is now an "AI voicebank", her voice was still provided by a single, paid individual, and honestly I'm... not entirely sure what the AI part is. I made her voice do the sing thing. There might have been some natural language processing with how she's able to pronounce English, I think?

I will 100% unleash my autism to rant and rave further about how vocaloid works, if anyone's interested. But mostly I want to share my music and its meanings. This song was basically made for this instance, which I do love so dearly.

If anyone has questions about my music creation process or my lyric writing thoughts, uh, please ask. I'll answer. That's a promise and a threat.
