Ancient practices hold important lessons for farmers facing drying lands, but they were often more complex than modern societies realize. Glacier loss adds to the challenge today.

Ancient beliefs, behaviors and norms – what archaeologists call culture – were fundamentally integrated into technological solutions in this part of Peru in ancient times. Isolating and removing the tools from that knowledge made them less effective.

You are totally right. This article is related to Europe, like all the others that are related somehow to China as well. Some were interesting, some borderline (?) conspiratorial but the point I wanted to make is that I lost count! This is why I asked the OP for mercy.

I don't know the term you mentioned so I'll be talking about the points you made, not the term itself.

So, I don't need morality to condemn the human suffering that slavery, female genital mutilation, or genocide creates. I don't need a moral lens for this, just a practical one -- out of solidarity, for freedom, equity, equality etc, for everyone on this planet. This is why it's easy for me to justify any fight for social justice. These fights are by default systemic so against the status quo. I hope it is clear why I don't need an objective moral truth.

I would like to ask you, when you say morality is objective who defines it and what is it?

“This is desirable given the security situation in Israel, the Palestinian Territories and the broader region,” say trade and foreign ministers.

The way I see things, there is nothing objective about morality because it is based on cultural principles, and these vary from place to place and through time as well.

Very interesting article but I don't see how it is related to a degrowth community.

Glacial archaeologists have recently discovered the second prehistoric ski of a pair of skis at Digervarden, a mountain in central Norway. Found just five meters from where the first one was uncovered seven years earlier, the ski was radiocarbon-dated to 1,300 years ago. As global warming leads to more glacial retreat, many artifacts have surfaced and sparked the need for further archaeological research in the area.

I pointed out that propaganda is present not only in China, but in the US as well. I tried to expand the argument, not talk about something else. At least that was my intention.

And what about this thing you said for slrpnk.net is the new lemmy.ml?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Could you please explain?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Yep, propaganda is a thing and it's getting worst, but not only for state-controlled media. For example, Propaganda in the United States

is spread by both government and non-government entities. Throughout its history, to the present day, the United States government has issued various forms of propaganda to both domestic and international audiences.

Talking about international audiences, it looks like:

Trump’s Gutting of RFA Hurts Press Freedom – And Helps Its Opponents – Across Asia | The Diplomat

RFA and VOA had been the most accessible alternatives to state media for many people in countries like China and North Korea. Not anymore.

I suppose the closest think I know of in relation to an effort of DIY medicine is the Open Insulin Foundation. Actually, to my understanding it's more of a DIT (Do It Together) thing:

We’re working to develop the first practical, small-scale, community-centered model for insulin production to make insulin accessible to all. This model will ensure communities in need have local sources of safe, affordable, high-quality insulin, and that people living with diabetes and their communities own and govern the organizations that produce the medicine they depend on to survive.

From another point of view, I believe that herbalism is quite relevant to your question, in the sense that the vast majority of medicine through out time and all over the world, come from plants. I embarked on this journey 1-2 years back and it's like I started rediscovering the world around me.

One of he great things with herbalism is that it's easy to do your own tinctures and mixtures, and use them also to prevent stuff. For example this autumn I made a mix to boost my immune system and I didn't get sick all winter for the first time in years. Just to be clear, I use both western medicine and herbalism, and I am not against vaccines.
