I'm not acting like they're innocent either, I don't and won't ever use any of them. But if you are thinking about it from the perspective of geopolitical warfare, the Chinese should doubly not trust grok and the US should doubly not trust DeepSeek. Using the adversaries tool is a fool's mistake outside of R&D.

Everyone conflates "AI model" with "AI platform."

The truth of the matter is that if you are interfacing with the DeepSeek service, you don't have control of the version of the model being run, the hidden system prompts, or any co-agents that might modify output before its sent to the user/service.

The model itself could be completely innocent. It may not have had any weights modified and was trained on honest greenfield data. But we control literally nothing about the environment it is running inside of.

It's good to have it as an option but most people are frustrated if they can't just go to one place that has tons of people.

A lot of the centerists you call far right are also getting called far left by the right. Centrists tend to pick and choose left or right or neither on each issue individually and don't pick sides.

Believe it or not, there are right beliefs that are not far right Nazi beliefs, the mundane day to day stuff. Genuine belief in lower government control and lower taxes for example. Unfortunately we didn't see any of that come true with this presidency.

And to be clear, I am a leftist, but one who believes in human free will. As long as you genuinely believe in doing the right thing and not harming others, we can debate all day on what exactly that looks like, but the minute it turns into the usual grift, I'm out.

We have been rolling passkeys out at work and have been having to explain to our users the difference between "Device-Bound" and "Synced" passkeys.

Synced passkeys are by nature more vulnerable because they touch the internet. They can be stored in regular password vaults and so on, tosses onto google drive, etc. and then get those compromised, and because passkeys come with an extremely high level of trust, that is a fully busted account at that point. As such, we can't justify allowing synced passkeys on corporate, especially for admin level accounts.

With that being said, for non-work accounts in your day to day life, synced passkeys are going to be the way to go for privacy and data sovereignty, but it moves the onus of protecting that data onto you the user. I am able to handle that, as are many reading this, but a lot of folks do not have the technical prowess to defend themselves. When I am off the clock, I will champion privacy-focused solutions day in and day out. Work can do work things on work's dime and work's time, but they will not touch my personal space - I will not abide it.

I am rapidly learning that cosplay is a lot harder than it looks...

I reinstalled skyrim recently for the first time in like 5 years. I had a bit of a shock when I remembered it released in 2011.

Looking at it now, I am honestly shocked it's not running at max settings in VR, even on cellphone hardware. This game is no longer anything resembling a technological marvel and runs on basically any modern hardware including the cheapest available options very well.

It's a compound word, you should slam them together.

Beatsaber and VRchat are like the two things that I most often go to VR for. Occasionally I'll do something else like some kind of gun game like Alyx or H3VR or whatever.

What I'm looking forward to most though is all of the VR mods for pancake games that have been coming out. I have an index but its been rather cumbersome as of late to play it, and I want to do something that is more independent.

Valve can say that its supposed to be a streaming device til they're blue in the face, and that is definitely a major selling feature for me, but what they made is a Quest competitor, and one that doesnt send excruciating details of my wife, children, pets, and home back to headquarters. It also runs Linux! You can replace that with whatever you want with the knowhow!

I will be using the frame at work in the breakroom, in the woods, and I even read someone mentioning they use theirs for like YouTube while washing dishes and stuff.

Up until now, the quest "didn't exist" for me, so this is going to be a standalone-first device for me with a pinch of desktop streaming.

Took a little bit playing with the editor to get this as close as i could. The options for the leggings and the skirt are very limited and you can't color the socks black or do gold trim on the skirt which is a bummer. The earrings can't be made red and there are no long jewel style ones, so little gold ones will have to do for now. Overall, making her was very fun though.

The Linux Ship of Theseus

  1. pick any distro and install it.

  2. Then, without installing another distro over the top of it, slowly convert it into another distro by replacing package managers, installed packages, and configurations.

System must be usable and fully native to the new distro (all old packages replaced with new ones).

No flatpaks, avoid snaps where physically possible, native packages only.

EDIT: Some clarification on some of the clever tools brought up here:

chroot, dd, debootstrap, and partition editors that allow you to install the new system in an empty container or blanket-overwrite the old system go against the spirit of this challenge.

These are very useful and valid tools under a normal context and I strongly recommend learning them.

You can use them if you prefer, but The ship of Theseus was replaced one board at a time. We are trying to avoid dropping a new ship in the harbor and tugging the old one out.

It may however be a good idea to use them to test out the target system in a safe environment as you perform the migration back in the real root, so you have a reference to go by.

Easy: pick two similar distros, such as Ubuntu and Debian or Manjaro and Arch and go from the base to the derivative.

Medium: Same as easy but go from the derivative to the base.

Hard: Pick two disparate distros like Debian and Artix and go from one to the other.

Nightmare: Make a self-compiled distro your target.

60fps ocarina of time in full HD is amazingly good. Some great moments here (fireskip is excellent)
