The latest Nature Index rankings reveal an astonishing trend: nine of the world’s top 10 research institutions are now Chinese

To fully appreciate China’s meteoric rise, one must look back at the academic landscape a decade ago. When the Nature Index Global rankings were first released in 2014, only eight Chinese universities made it into the top 100. Today, that number has more than quintupled, with 42 Chinese institutions now ranking among the world’s best

One of the most notable policy shifts has been the move away from publication-based evaluation metrics. Previously, Chinese academics were incentivized to publish as many papers as possible, often at the expense of quality. However, recent reforms have introduced a more rigorous peer-review system that prioritizes impactful and innovative research over sheer volume. This shift has resulted in a significant improvement in the credibility and global influence of Chinese scientific output.

Taiwan stocks plummeted almost 10% on Monday, the biggest one-day percentage fall on record, in the first trading since U.S. tariffs were announced last week, with Taiwan's president taking to X to pledge a "golden age" of shared prosperity with the U.S.

“There is no point in striking back hastily with additional measures,” Herkenhoff said

The revised regulations give carmakers more flexibility to achieve the annual sales targets for electric vehicles and reduce the penalties for not meeting them.

Stellantis, for example, had threatened to close its van plant in Luton rather than invest in the planned e-van production there – and it did indeed shut down the factory at the end of March.

I believe there are already people doing something like that.

We have already seen market dominance with solar panels from China over the past decade. While prices are still consistently trending downward. This decline can largely be attributed to the intense competition among numerous manufacturers in China.

The same logic can be applied to Chinese EV manufacturers.

In contrast, other countries typically at best have only have a couple of EV manufacturers, often receiving substantial government protection akin to a helicopter parent. This lack of competition keep prices higher.

In the US perhaps. In other countries people either choose Tesla for its charging network & software or Chinese EVs for LFP batteries & value. Korean cars can't find a niche.

From my understanding its mostly legacy automakers that are unable to sell EVs effectively. However EV sales overall are up from EV manufacturers like Tesla & BYD etc.

What news reports did you read that lead you to believe that the EV market is dying?

It seems to be the same size as this?

Many other EV manufacturers sell their cars for twice what its priced in China because they can. BYD for instance has a huge profit margin in Europe.

I think it just means google would stop selling it as the new google TV streamer is up for sale. My Chromecast from 2015 is still working till this day.
