flip phone

Almost all such phones are actually smart phones in a flip phone Edgar Suit. Especially if it has maps or YouTube or any kind of an App Store. I see a crapton of flip phones that run Android, which has all sorts of Google spyware piggybacking along.

I think there may be only two or three dumb flip phones or feature flip phones left on the market, and IIRC two are locked to specific networks.

If you want a bona-fide dumb phone, you might be limited to something like the rotary un-smartphone.

Go for older laser printers. They’re bulletproof, cheap on toner, free of DRM, and even if they only come with an LPT port you can always build your own print server that gives you all the bells and whistles like AirPrint.

About 3-4 years ago I took a bit of a dive into the firmware of IoT devices. The utter lack of security and the amount of information being hoovered up to the mothership made me swear to never build anything “smart” into the renovations of my current home. Sure, there will be automation. There will be CCTV. There will be solar with battery backup for essentials. There will be conveniences of all kinds. But virtually all will be air gapped, incapable of remote rooting, and under my full control.

Hell, even my laser printers are HP models over two decades old - an HP 4050DTN and an HP 5000DTN - that are totally devoid of any DRM or “smart features” and can trivially take generic overstuffed cartridges that can do 20,000 sheets at 5% coverage.

Canadians are generally considered super nice and polite by Americans

That’s actually a common misconception. We aren’t really all that nice. We just do passive aggressive really, really well.

This is how the Parasite Class gets ever-wealthier while the Working Class (the lower-99%) get ever-poorer.

I wonder if the SFP port will also allow the router to connect directly to the ISP’s fibre connection, allowing the unit to behave as both modem and router.

What confuses me is that the Detroit river, and the border with it, runs almost completely north to south. So saying you want to move that border westward to absorb Detroit would make a hell of a lot more sense.

So how long until the first underground railroads for young women are set up?

I mean, I am already talking with American LGBQT about being on the Canadian side to receive them. But it looks like we’ll need to set one up for women, as well.

Looked up this area on a map… are you talking about absorbing Detroit into Canada? As in, expanding our borders into America and taking over Eastern Michigan?

Or are you talking about pulling our border back up the Ontario panhandle, towards London and Mississauga?

Plus, boomers lived through the most economically vibrant time in history, where a single wage-earner on close to minimum wage could easily earn enough for a house, a SAH spouse, several children, and a car in the garage, while still saving up enough for retirement and going on at least one decent vacation a year.

How so many of them just pissed everything away is an absolute shock to me. I am a GenX that stumbled a few times out the gate (a nasty Voltron of ADD and Asperger’s), have decent savings, but had none of the same economic opportunities as boomers did. And I am still unable to retire for the foreseeable future.

NONE OF US should have medical, dental, or vision expenses. All essential dental - and I am taking about three-on-six bridges being deemed essential - should be a part of any dental coverage. If someone cannot take implants (diabetes, near-EoL, etc.), then dentures should be the fallback.

And I’m talking about all fascists directly involved in the current coup, from Musky-boy and the DOJ appointee Ed Martin all the way down to the individual DOGE staffers.

At some point, America is going to have it’s own version of the Nuremberg trials, and there needs to be some sort of shadow archival records system that can reliably emerge out the far end with sufficient evidence to make these monsters hang.

Under capitalism, envisioning a shift away from fossil fuels is more difficult by the day.

Looks like Roblaw’s at it again… robbing the working class to keep obscene profits rolling to the Parasite Class. And I bet the farmer who raised those turkeys get only a few dollars per.

I particularly enjoy how Google got savaged:

Google has a similar yet slightly different story, where their core product - search - has gone from a place where you find information to an increasingly-manipulated labyrinth of SEO-optimized garbage shipped straight from the content factories.

Google no longer provides the “best” result or answer to your query - it provides the answer that it believes is most beneficial or profitable to Google. Google Search provides a “free” service, but the cost is a source of information corrupted by a profit-seeking entity looking to manipulate you into giving money to the profit-seeking entities that pay them.

The system almost 100% works as intended! But it doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t work for you. It doesn’t work for a vast majority of human beings across the globe. But yet it absolutely works as intended for the Parasite Class, the 0.01% at the very top.

And this is why it’s a cancer of our society. Until it has been excised and replaced with something more humane, human civilization is doomed to collapse. You cannot have an economic ideology that demands infinite growth on a planet with finite resources.
