Râdem noi, glumim, dar oare prinde și judecata de apoi? Eu zic să place our bets.

Edit: Salutare. Deja existăm de ceva timp dar acum pare chiar momentul în care avem potențial să creștem. Noroc și la mai mult! 🍻

Mind everyone that, despite being European, Qobuz still lacks support for many countries out there, so not a great alternative to established streaming platforms if you're not in one of them.

Soundcloud seems like it's bigger.

Would moving to the UK be an option? I remember they were a frequently used option by governments.

I've watched it back in the day, I think, on Netflix (ironically). Not something I wasn't already aware of, personally, but all the info that was already publicly available was nicely put.

Still have my socials (FB and Insta) because many of my friends are there, but I rarely visit these places.

This place is way better 😁

About time someone should have done this already. Well done, Sweden!

Friendica has federated with Lemmy since... the very first time Lemmy enabled AP federation I guess? lol, idk. I just got very happy that I can also replace Reddit with Friendica, not just Facebook. Sadly, I figured out the hard way about .ml and the only alternative to .ml was beehaw, lol.

Back then .world didn't even exist, lol.

Anyway, yes, hello from Friendica. It's not so active indeed, because there are not so many people, but as it got some attention from Ruud (the admin of both lemmy.world and mastodon.world) there's been an uptick as of late.

Sadly, the situation of Friendica as an alternative to Facebook is really disproportionate, imo, as this is a hobby project made by some enthusiasts that aren't even organized as a juridical entity (unlike Mastodon for example) vs. a multibillion-dollar company that owns the biggest social network on the planet.

Lemmy is also in a somewhat similar situation, but Reddit is not that big, though.

Being the oldest still actively developed Fediverse project does give it an advantage, though.

@cm0002 My Friendica node did the heavy lifting for a while, blocking both .ml, lemmygrad as well if I'm not mistaken - although sadly .world and even lemmy.ca too - back in the day. The issue? Lemmy was just sending way too many activities (upvotes - generated as likes, downvotes, comments etc.) and was generaly overwhelming the server.

They have since reverted the block, but I got a hefty selection of communities spread across multiple servers. I followed [[email protected]](/c/[email protected]), as well as [[email protected]](/c/[email protected]) for example - as they are on more dedicated servers, rather than general purpose ones. Sadly, the former did not take off the way I expected it to 😁

Wait, can you actually purchase music through Qobuz? And download it for an unlimited number of times in different formats (mp3, ogg, flac etc.)?

Edit: looks like there's another Pop Cola brand in the Philippines owned by the actual Coca Cola, lol. The one I got is actually produced in the EU, by Merlin's Beverages, headquartered at Piatra Neamț, Romania.

It's essentially a free streaming platform, with over 7000 Canadian movies, documentaries, animations, series etc., also available via an app.

nfb.ca/

They're also available on the Fediverse as well -----> @NFB

It's a streaming platform from the makers of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) organizers. It's currently only available in Romania, but I guess a VPN will do (or kindly ask them to support the entire Europe as a response to Trump). You won't find the big budget Hollywood blockbusters, rather it's more dedicated to independent filmmakers. Could also be useful if you're looking to break free from American cultural products.

So cool that the community is also present here. I'd like to suggest Friendica as an alternative to Facebook. What's Friendica? Well, for starters, it's a decentralized alternative to Facebook also compatible with ActivityPub, just like Lemmy, Mastodon, PeerTube or Pixelfed (in fact, I'm posting this right now from Friendica). Unlike the aforementioned, Friendica has been around for longer, it's pretty much the oldest project in the Fediverse still active.

Friendica is not just a Facebook alternative. It has much more stuff that you won't find on Facebook, such as:

  • The ability to follow RSS feeds and receive articles straight to your feed, along other posts from ActivityPub.
  • The ability to follow other decentralized protocols still out there, such as diaspora* - where the platform having the same name didn't bother adding AP support - so you get the best of both worlds
  • The ability to log in to other social networks such as Bluesky or Tumblr, and see your feed straight from Friendica (more on that later);
  • Server owners have the ability to install add-ons, which add extra stuff - from themes, to functionality, to compatibility with other social networks, essentially acting like a dedicated app for them, but getting their feed into the Friendica feed (it even had a Facebook add-on back in the day, before it was shut by Facebook).
  • The ability to format your posts using BBCode (Markdown is also supported via an add-on, but will be converted to BBCode after posting), as well as comments or your entire profile.

Plus many more stuff, excluding stuff that was generally used by Meta to track and profile you.

There are plenty of servers, including one administrated by the same team behind mastodon.world and lemmy.world.

Go check it! 😁
