I don’t know if I have an answer on Chinese tourists beyond I think most East Asian tour groups following the person with the flag is kind of funny.

That said, China and Chinese people are wonderful. Many of the cultural standards are just different but even more may be more civilized than the west. For example, putting family before all else, a love for cleanliness, home and person hygiene, shared meals, always willing to pay for your friends, taking care of those who take care of you (guanxi), etc.

Thank you so much for sharing this! One I have never learned this before and never understand the eastern front. Two, many Americans still view manifest destiny as a positive American culture. This really sheds light on how it’s not.

$200 bucks is definitely worth trying to find the owner. That could be someone’s week of grocery money

I’d say 50-100 or less don’t even try.

What sort of media?

https://serverpartdeals.com/ Is frequently recommended as reliable and with a good warranty. When I first started I got my from a local electronics recycler with only a 30 day warranty. I was only caring about price. Now I’m just using bigger used ones. My only warranty is them being cheap to free and backing up data multiple places.

I agree it’s a bigger step. I currently only have one at my office and it took me forever to get around to setting it up.

I mean just plug them in to your computer or server then move your data. If it was me I would rsync-avz source destination the data :)

An Optiplex only has one maybe two bays. But the low power and cost are worth it!

I think it really doesn’t matter what hardware you have as long as it won’t randomly break.

Maybe I’ll give my specific example. I have a QNAP 1u server that was given to me so I decided to use it as a cold backup. I turn it on once a week and then ssh into my main servers and rsync important data into their respective locations on the QNAP.

If I was making a new system I would make a fedora server 41 usb, install that to a new system using the gui, restart it and ssh in to setup my folder structure, then rsync ally stuff there and be done :) Would probably take less than 30-60 minutes to setup

I originally got my used drives from an electronic recycling company. They were selling them around 3-5$ per TB.

Then I got a ton of my sysadmin family member.

That’s about what I pay too :)

Seems you got more out of the horrible link than me :) It is bad.

Having been to many a Chinese Internet cafe 网吧 in China and Japan, they have all run windows. I think steam keeps getting blocked or something by the gov as well. You’re right that piracy is very commonplace in China too. I bet it’s a decrease on steam use not windows.

Still, what a weird way to say less Chinese users. Also simplified Chinese is a written language, why don’t they just say mainland Chinese?

China, Taiwan, and just EA Chinese people in general are beyond nice. This past trip made me see how straight forward and warm hearted they really are and such strong family values.

Season one we have no idea what’s going on but the beginning of season two we know too much for there to be much mystery. Yeah we don’t know Helly’s motives and what they’re working on but neither of those are as interesting as the first season’s total confusion.

Examples:

Random farm scene

Knowing helly knows

I don’t mean this in a rude way. Feels like the past week or so has had some bizarre questions asked.

I mainly use trillium and want to import my notes. Unsure how to do it without windows. Even with windows the instructions seem unclear

Edit: Here’s what I did: I got my partner’s windows computer and put my onenote notebook on it via file transfer. Then I made folders for every notebook and subnotebook. Finally I would through each section and exported it as a docx. Then I found an app on fedora that can convert docx to anything, and I chose markdown. Then imported these into Trilium. I could have exported each note but that would have taken 10x as long and the section export feature makes clear new notes.

Final comment: importing markdown into Trilium took one second. For formatting sake, I tried to import html as well and it crash the app.

Can find any relevant logs.

Proxy says it can resolve ui but ui has no issues in the logs.

Update:

Super weird solution that I don't understand how it ever worked. Evidently the picts volume mapping in the docker-compose.yml had one extra space before it. I noticed this when I tried to write docker compose down and it said error line 49. Weird this is the ui worked until suddenly it didn't.

Why would this randomly change? Did my yml suddenly change? Why did it work before now?

I mod some of these communities on other instances but wanted to provide decentralized alternatives, since that’s the whole point of Lemmy, and explore admining since I enjoy selfhosting :)

Very niche communities but I welcome anyone to join and post.

Sorry to ask a similar question compared to a week ago

Password is right in compose and config. Idk what else to do.
