They wouldn't do this when the better option for them is to make Mamdani's ambitions for New York as hard as possible to bring to fruition. Even if they only hinder him a bit, any inability at all from Mamdani to do every single thing he wants to do (and things they claim he wants to do) will see relentless coverage in the right wing media (and likely also some from liberal media) in order to paint it as a "failed project" and how "unrealistic socialism is." That serves them far better than just disappearing the guy

I see your point about how they will try and make Mamdani look as bad as possible in the meeting but he could withstand it far better than Zelenskyy, I reckon. Nothing wrong with Zelenskyy on that front, just it's obvious Mamdani would do better

Next week: "Shabana Mahmood is the new Labour leader"

[–] knowone@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago

Obviously shouldn't count on this being the actual result. But this is more than a bit worrying

I'll preface this by saying I only have some basic knowledge around hardware. Any answers I might receive will probably have to be dumbed down a bit. So I bought a used 2021 Razer Blade on eBay a few months ago cos it had good specs for the price. I know, I know, desktops are better for gaming but I live in a van and travel a lot so a desktop isn't an option

Anyway, I hadn't really thought about it until afterwards (silly mistake) but I learned quite soon after buying it that it's the latest model that doesn't have battery management that allows capping the charge at 80%. I tried finding a software solution for this but from looking it up it seems that I'd need better hardware to do it and you can't with just software? Correct me if I'm wrong

Is this something I can upgrade the laptop with or is it baked in, so to speak? I know these laptops are pretty notorious for the pillow battery thing, if that's the right term. I'll accept I'll need to replace it at some point if it can't be done, but if there's some other solution then that'd be great

Given that YouGov has them also climbing it's starting to look less like an outlier. Still a long way to go but my hope is still slowly and cautiously growing

As the article says, it's yet another of many reviews over the years that has shown that racism, and other forms of bigotry, are systemic in the Met. Which have been basically ignored every time. I'm sure in this time of increased general bigotry in the UK something will absolutely be done, after this one

I'm glad in the article they say that Khan is part of the centrist Labour establishment. For any US people that aren't aware, Mamdani's win is a way bigger jump to the left for New York than Khan was/is for London, even though Johnson came before him. I wish Khan was like Mamdani in this aspect, London could really use someone like that too

www.coolzonemedia.com

A community for discussion of anything related to the Cool Zone Media podcast network and its hosts.

Robert Evans' Behind the Bastards is the most popular thing they put out, but some of the others include It Could Happen Here, Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff, Hood Politics, Away Days, and Better Offline.

The network covers a wide range of topics, both current and historical. Even if most of the content isn't your thing and you're not bothered about joining this community there's likely at least one thing in there that you have some interest in, and could be worth a listen for you.

I included the parenthesis part in the title as I imagine the memey network name isn't nearly as well known as their biggest individual podcasts and might not get across exactly what the community is about, but I can remove it if I shouldn't be doing that

I want them to get it together, but mostly cos there's certain seats that Your Party will win or have a good chance of winning that the Greens won't. We need a united front but so far it's not looking great. Really needs to happen in good time before next year's local elections

Thank you for linking this. I've looked at every instance of "transport" in the document and it's almost all about maintaining and renewing current infrastructure. Which is good, of course, but nowhere does it seem to talk about affordability. In the part where it talks about how they're going to decarbonise the UK in regards to transport, again it just seems to talk about pushing for electric cars.

Correct me if I'm wrong and have missed things though. I'd be pleased to see that they're actually going to make public transport affordable. It's good to make what's there better and expand it. But if most people still aren't able to use it and having a car is cheaper, it's not going to have nearly the outcome it should

[–] knowone@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

As expected, basically nothing on making public transport better and affordable. Just the usual focus on making having electric cars easier. Really going "all in" here Ed, sure

Refreshing to see this attitude, rather than the pre-election "you're an idiot if you don't vote for me" followed by the post-election ”wow you didn't vote for me, you idiots" rhetoric you get from most Dems

In a shock poll, the Green Party under its new leader Zack Polanski has pulled ahead of Labour (just).

According to the pollsters Find Out Now, the Greens are on 15%, the same level as Labour. But as economist James Meadway notes, if you look at the detailed results, the Greens are on 15.31%, compared to 15.23% for Labour.

This is being a bit mischievous, because polling has a margin of error. But the trajectory is clear - the Greens are surging, and Labour is falling back. The Greens are enjoying their best polling in their history. Just 13 months after winning the election, Labour is on its worst polling recorded in the post-war period.

Apologies if this sort of post isn't allowed. So I've given BG3 a go two times now. Both times I've been excited and expected that it's likely something I'll be into. But I get down to it and I just lose steam with it pretty quickly

I was wondering if there's a point early on where it takes a big jump in engaging you and I just didn't get to that point? I didn't really get that far past the starting "spaceship" area (not sure if I should call it that), so I know I haven't given it that much of a chance. I know there'll be many places that are a lot more interesting throughout it

But I dunno, it just doesn't keep my attention. The gameplay doesn't feel that great for me personally. So if it's kinda just more of the same in terms of gameplay, just with the (no doubt) great plot unfolding and better surroundings then it might just not be for me. I mostly play soulslikes, which is obviously pretty different gameplay, and I struggle to get into most games not in that style. I just really wanted to like BG3 so don't want to write it off without asking this. Not saying it's a bad game or anything, it's clearly a masterpiece, but might just not be my thing

From what I understand, Ivory King is the most popular one. But I was playing through some of it today (not my first time) and I actually think I like Sunken King the most. Which is the least popular I think? Correct me if I'm wrong on those

Not entirely sure what it is, though I feel the biggest factor for me is "vibes". Big fan of the aesthetic, the architecture and so on. I feel it has more of a mysterious aura to it than the others too. Feels kinda like it could be somewhere in Elden Ring, though obviously how similar it is to ER isn't a factor in how good it is
