Looks like they changed the headline on you, there is no claim he has been arrested, just charged.

Please fix the headline or we'll have to remove it.

Isn't BART an independent agency though? Even if it fails, how is that a failure of California governance? 🤔

It's going to get bigger as people's 401Ks evaporate.

We Stand On Guard is a good book about the US invading Canada. :)

Not SUPER modern, but I'd also suggest the Martha Washington books by Frank Miller:

A recent re-print in color that's the closest thing I've seen to V is called "Billi 99" by Tim Sale.

All great reads!

Hexbear and lemmygrad both get cut off for having a "tankie" reputation.

lemmy.ml has similar issues, but most other instances give them a pass as they are the ORIGINAL lemmy and contain a lot of valued communities.

Locally:

"The Portland-area protests are expected to take place at the Japanese American Historical Plaza on the downtown waterfront at noon, at St. Johns Plaza in North Portland at 10:30 a.m. and at the south end of Westmoreland Park in Southeast Portland at 9:30 a.m.

Other related demonstrations will take place in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard and Milwaukie — as well as throughout the state.

Demonstrators at the downtown Portland event will march along a planned two-mile loop, according to the event’s webpage. It’s unclear how many people will show up or what the traffic impact will be."

This appears to be the event page mentioned (not linked in the article):

"Branham’s first, middle, last name, and age matches that of a person whom actor Scarlett Johansson has previously accused of stalking in an application for a restraining order, according to court documents filed in California.

Those documents show that a judge denied the request for a restraining order on a technicality. A representative for Johansson declined to comment."

I can see this replacing the Gru meme...

Technically true, you can't "lead to pain" if you're already causing pain. :)

"According to the city, the Arts Access Fund pays for one arts teacher per 500 elementary school students. For the 2024-2025 school year, $7.8 million went to schools from arts tax money.

“Prior to the Arts Access Fund, there were 31 full-time arts teachers and educators serving K-5 students across Portland schools,” Dawn Isaacs, the City of Portland’s arts education coordinator said in a press release in December. “In the 2023-24 school year, there were 111. That increase is directly related to the Arts Access Fund.” "

Vast majority of the subsequent feedback seems to be overwhelmingly negative. Good job Oregon!

Garth Ennis spins a zombie tale, only instead of zombies, it's every infant in the world under the age of 1 suddenly turned into raging non-verbal adults.

Quote is from Fetterman, but he's not wrong here.

Personal for me since my daughter in law is from there. She's trying to reach out but a) infrastructure damage and b) everyone else is trying too.

Edit 6.4 aftershock 12 minutes later.

Edit Map for those unfamiliar. Epicenter was NW of Sagaing, close to Mandalay, pretty much dead center of the country.

Buildings ~~damaged~~ completely collapsed as far away as Bangkok.

See dots on map.

Update from my daughter in law:

"I just spoke with my mom. Fortunately, my family is safe, but there are some damages to our house (Yangon) and my dad’s office (Naypyidaw).

I’ve heard that it is worse in Bangkok. My second brother is currently visiting there, and my family is trying to reach him."

Photos from Naypyidaw:

If anyone needs a list for protest action, it's super cool for the White House to put it all in one place.

I haven't made these... YET... but they look AMAZING.
