I worked on a credit union and it was extremely profit driven. They would pay lip service to "serving our members" but it was always about "growing assets profitably", as they put it.

And it really just felt like an American work culture thing more than anything else. Like one of the previous CEOs had his house paid for, his car; his wife and him even had free health insurance for the rest of their lives. I know all this because he had an affair with a secretary(he forgave a loan she had for $20,000+) and there was a court case.

The people saying it's non-profit or it all stays local I think don't realize how much greed is still there and active.

For myself, I don't hate it, I just don't seem to get it like everyone else. I just leveled myself up and gave some weapons after a while because I found the combat unengaging and wanted to finish the story. I'm interested in trying out that mod pack someone else mentioned. Maybe the experience will be quite different.

That seems a little presumptuous.

While I think your point is true that its much more abstract than people realize. When I worked at a bank and we disbursed loans and credited/debited fees it was from "GLs" (General Ledger?) which were basically just separate accounts to help keep track. Like we had a "member service" one which was for basically anything with good reason. One time someone did a very large amount but he just basically got told to do it a different way.

Its all just in a computer. I could've accidentally credited someone a million dollars but it would've been realized when I tried to close my drawer and balance everything out. And the branch would have to be balanced at the end of the day so I assume the bank did as well.

On a related note banks take out loans from other banks. I think a lot of people don't realize that banks have savings accounts so they have money to lend.

I just moved to a place with one of these! It's fantastic. The owner is the type of guy to come refill coffee himself.
